Root Goodbye TouchWiz

Saps, I think you should also mention in the OP that this is NOT for those who use automatic FB sync. Removing TW will cause "acore" FCs (which can get pretty annoying) because TouchWiz is integral to FB sync.
I will add it in. I dont FB at all ever, I dont even have an account. I know Im part of that 2.3% of the earth not on FB. I'll amend the OP though, thanks for the tip

Can you explain what you mean by Facebook Sync?

I use Facebook to sync contact status and pictures, as well as I have the android app fetching updates every 30 minutes. But since removing TouchWiz and replacing it with Launcher Pro - I have not had force close issues. Are you talking about something else?

Yeah, that is what I'm talking about. I guess for some reason it affects some but not others? Since turning my auto-sync off I have had no more acore FC's.

Would it happen constantly or just when the SNS sync process kicked off?

I just realized my SNS is only set to once a day. My Facebook for Android app itself is what is set to 30 minutes, but I don't think it does any of the integrated contact-type stuff.

I tried this, but didn't see any noticeable speed increase or lag decrease. Undone.

I think the problem is with LP. the dev for LP made his own method to read in apps when you long press. He said it would open faster if you had lots of app, but to tell the truth I think it sucks its no faster and is choppy as hell when first opened. I wish he would change it back myself. I've noticed improvement in opening the widgets list though (something he didn't change)

the lp is rewriting the entire code for lp currently and at some point soon hopefully we should a whole new lp based on 2.2 instead of 2.0, so i think the few issues that exist with lp should be gone by then

Yeah I saw that a while back. Wonder how long it takes to do something like that? I love LPP but that app menu thing is one thing he messed up IMO. Maybe it works better don't know.

I have just renamed the Daily Brief app aka InfoAlarm via Root Manager (awesome app) and so far so good the screen was slow to respond but after a few seconds it was back to normal. Is it possible or safe to move renamed apps (.old) to SD card under Root Manager. Thanks
Yeah you can move stuff to your sdcard if you renamed it. Many do. Of course you can move back when needed and re-name back

I am sorry for the silly question but is it better to rename or remove to the SD card? once i am inside root manger under apps i long pressed on my renamed app and press move which gives me the option to paste. Is there steps i must follow? By the way i am on 1.2GHZ LV and the battery life is outstanding, its quite snappy too. thanks
IMO, if you are going to put something on the SDCard you dont have to rename it per se since its not on the phone to conflict. If you wanna leave it right where it belongs than of course you must rename, but you dont have to remove. Admittedly, you take up a bit of extra space this way but its nothing significant or bad.
Sounds like you got it in terms of renaming and/or moving. Good to go

This is probably one of the single best improvements I have made to my SF....thanks saps!

IMO this should be a sticky...besides the overall user experience being snappier. my widgets run smoother, and disabling TW has revealed a major flaw taht has made my device annoying:

When I had an evo (for a month---sprint service wasnt as good as VZW) I would constantly use the search button to look up contacts and apps. It was quick and easy. I noticed that on the SF, sometimes the search button was not responsive...but a simple tap of the home button would "refresh" something and indeed there was a quick blink on the screen, and then the search button was usable (albeit with slight lag, unlike the evo :( )

In any event, I always thought it was a LP issue, but after disabling TW, its obvious it was a TW issue...after disabling TW, the search button works EVERY time, and there's no need to hit the home button to "refresh" anything.

In the end it really is unbelievable how an international company can let something like this be, while a sole developer can create something that is better.

ok so Im very happy with this mod, but I am getting the acore fc when my facebook account tries to sync w my contacts...I have it set to once a day.

For now I think I will manually update which still produces a fc, but the fb sync says it has been updated even with a fc---Its fine since I use the sync really to just have more info within my already existing contact entries, plus have the e-mail addresses and phone numbers of those fb friends who I dont have as contacts.

Yes that is the one fault of the procedure is you lose auto FB sync. I dont FB at all so no big whoop for me. If you do just do it manually. Small price to pay IMO for the net result

i cant give you an answer other than, at some point maybe you froze/renamed/deleted and dont recall?

I didnt even think to look in tb thanks for the idea, I looked and its crossed out. But I know that I didnt do it maybe at some point one of the roms that I have d/l maybe?

But anyways now I know why and finally got to the bottom of the FC issue. Thanks for opening my brain nit. :D
