looking for a text id faker will pay big money

Yep, and illegal.

link? Not that I'm saying it's something I want to do, but there are legit situations out there where an app like this could come in handy.

for example:

*you are divorced and need to commumicate to the ex about something, but you don't want them to have your number. texting won't allow a *67 like calling will. Some people simply buy a dummy phone specifically for texting the ex so they wouldn't give them their primary cell number. Some ex's, believe it or not, are spiteful enough to give YOUR number to their bill collectors, or stuff like that.

it's not always for nefarious reasons. and to the person who said "no one will help you" I disagree. For the right price, which this guy said he's willing to pay, there is someone who doesn't care what you do with the technology and will help.

To answer the question though, I would agree with checking out the websites that have free computer to text options. Maybe open your device's browser and text from there. It's an option anyways.

I have checked into this and I believe its illegal ,</snip>

so is it or not? if you checked into it, you either can find the proof or not and please be kind to provide a link. I would like to know the actual laws. The way you worded it seems to me like you've heard it's illegal, but while checking, you still couldn't find any definitive proof. I realise the absence of evidence is not the evidence of absence, but still, if you have proof, please post it.

It is illegal to use it for mischievous purposes. If you use it for purpose not to harm someone else, then it is not illegal.

Example - you need to text a client, you text them from your personal phone but you spoof your business phone ID on the text. That is not illegal.

Example - You text your next door neighbor with her husbands phone ID with "I am in the hospital, come here quick! 911" and then go rob their house... that is illegal. Actually I would bet it would be against the law even if you don't rob their house!

Use it for bad... take the risk of having police being involved.

the way I understand it is, if you are spoofing to a number that you already own )ie a busness phone number form a personal phone number), then its legal. If you do NOT own that number, or are using it to threaten, text bomb, or otherwise annoy somebody, its illegal.

I don't see how they can make a caller id faker and not a text id faker

Call ID fakers are also not legal in most situations. Going with your thinking, I dont see why they make torrent programs, when everyone knows they use them to get illegal files.

Caller ID Spoofing Ban is Bad for Business - PCWorld Business Center ...Boy that was hard to find...why don't you try Google sometime...works very well. It says "It shall be unlawful for any person within the United States, in connection with any real time voice communications service, regard less of the technology or network utilized, to cause any caller ID service to transmit misleading or inaccurate caller ID information, with the intent to defraud or deceive."

It's usually legal when a call center puts a single phone number as the CallerID for all outbound calls. If they are buying TDM services to terminate calls, then each trunk should have a 10 digit number assigned to it. You would not want to send the actual trunk phone number CallerID info...instead, you want all those outbound calls to look like they came from the same 800-number or whatever...
