ICE - In case of Emergency app

Is anyone using this app? It looks like a great idea, just wondering if it is worth the $2.99

There was a rumour a few years ago that paramedics etc look on phones found at crash/emergency sites for phonebook entries with ICE.

Seemed like a good idea - but no idea if it's common knowledge.

I just have an ICE contact in my contacts list. It's free and it works. I can't imagine EMTs trying to figure out how to open an ICE app on my droid without first checking my contacts...

Its weird that we have to pay for this. On my old Lg Voyager the 1st contact was a red ICE and u could put 3 contacts on there because if something happens the authorities will look for it on ur phone. I thought this was going to b put on all phone because i thought it was pretty smart and nice, but i guess they didn't, with that said though you can add it to your contacts n then it'll just b there for free.

Hmm, not really sure it is worth the money. I know that we check every so often but in all honesty we are usually to busy to check for this kind of stuff on a phone. Now the hospital or local police may be a different matter.

Maybe this is different, but the ICE app I heard about resided on the lock screen, which is nice. Expecting ER people to figure out the droid or get past the password and navigate a menu to the contacts page is too much. The app also had emergency medical info, like allergies, medications, and known issues (like diabetes). It seemed like a good idea, but again I have two concerns. One is security, which I guess is not a big deal and worth the compromise. Other is "will they look for it and find it?"

Thanks for the input. I also had a designated place by Samsung for ICE on my other phone that was in the contacts list.. Like Galt posted, this app places an icon on your home screen and bypasses any pass code and has a place for other medical info. I just went ahead and made an ICE listing in my contacts with emergency numbers.

ICE is a real thing, meaning EMTs and police do often look for it on your phone if you are incapacitated. i verified this with an EMT friend. it's a good idea to have this entry. i'm not sure why you'd need an app for it though. like someone said, just make an ICE entry. put your emergency contact name/number, blood type, allergies, and medications in there.

I added a contact named ".ICE" with the dot so it would show up at the top of the list. However, if the screen is locked, that may be a problem. Doh!

Bought it to take a look at it...seems most useful to me due to its ability to provide a way for me to put "If found, please call xxx-xxx-xxxx to return - reward will be provided!" on the screen when the phone is locked.

If it gets used for medical stuff, that would just be gravy.

Is there another app that allows you to put "please call xxx if found" message on the phone when it is locked? That's really all I need, and this is the only thing like that I've found.

Shows over wall paper...looks like this:

So whatever wallpaper you have will show.

One problem it is set a to a little too transparent (the on-screen instructions are too hard to read), and there isn't a way in the app to change that.

Thanks for the info. I already saw the ugly blue ocean pic in AM. That is why I asked about wallpaper. I dislike that pic enuf that I would not buy app if I was gonna be stuck with it.

Sorry I haven't followed up sooner. While I do visit this forum almost daily, I didn't actually run across this thread until just now.

Just to answer a few questions:

(1) yes, one big advantage of this app is that you can use it while the phone is pattern locked

(2) while not all first responders will think of it, or have to time to look, I have had a LOT of extremely positive feedback from many ER nurses, paramedics, and LEO's. Read the feedback in the ratings comments for some of it. You can also read testimonials from some people who have actually used our app in an emergency at the link above.

(3) the ICE lock screen uses whatever wallpaper you use for your home screen.

(4) regarding the text not being legible on the ICE lock screen: you have complete control over this. From the lock screen, just press MENU/'Set test-box opacity' -- 100% opaque is alway legible (but some level of transparency may look nicer without sacrificing legibility).

it is a "real" thing but honestly theres usually such so much going on that they dont really have to look at it. im a volunteer firefighter and ive riden with the EMT's a few times. usually when a person is that badly injuried its such a crazy time that their more focused on saving somebodies life than going through their phone. yes sometimes they stick around and try and find a phone number if the hospital cant pull anything up. also sometimes its a bitch because people lock their phones and its so hard to get into them

There does appear to be a problem on the droid since the 2.01update there is a 5 second tiMe out on the lock screen, and I can't find a way to change it. So you can only have about a 2s delay on the screen appearing..

When the ice screen does appear the time out is still in force so the screen keeps blanking. Looks like google has messed a few things up for you.

Thanks for the heads-up! Believe it or not, you are the first person (out of over 1000 active installs) to have mentioned this problem. I will post an update shortly that fixes it.

Cool - thanks very much for the quick response and update. I installed the new version and it is now working well again.

Now - if you would pretty please allow export/import of settings to/from the SD card, that would be great!

If all you need is the ICE numbers, and not medical information/history/meds (which the ICE app makes room for), then you also might want to consider using "Contact Owner." It's another free app on the Market.

It works even when your phone is locked and it allows you not only to put your contact information if the phone is lost, but there's space to add text before & after the contact info where you can customize it to add ICE info. I've done this so now it shows my home # & email address as well as my top 2 ICE #'s.
