When I first got this crappy phone I was pumped but now a whole mess of problems started to happen and mind you its only two months old. If I tilt it n it goes in landscape it takes a long time to go back into normal viewing mode. It lags when switching screens. Half my contacts don't link and now my key board lags. Im about to throw this thing out. Please help before I do it.

Tilting problems are usually better after a compass calibration. Settings... Location... Calibrate compass.

Did you upgrade to 2.2 from 2.1? If so, you should try clearing your cache. You have to boot into recovery by powering on your phone after pressing and holding down the home key. When the green dude comes up, you have to press the search (4th) button and use the volume keys to scroll up/down and the camera button for a GO button.

If you'd like to start over, one of the options on that recovery screen is "system reset". This restores your phone to the way you first received it, except it has all the updates, just no apps. You'd still have to reinstall everything, but this is an option. Installing Appbrain to help restore your apps would help here.

If you're using LP or ADW launcher, you should install "home switcher" to boot into blur and clear the apps off your screen. They still run in the background, even tho you can't see them.

Sorry, I'm doing this from memory. These things have been discussed in other threads if you want more info.

A corrupted file/filesystem on your sd card can also cause many problems like you describe. Take your card out of your device, or put a spare card in, if you have one. If it was a problem with the original sd card, the problems will go away.

To fix. Move your files and folders off your card, reformat the card, then move only essential files and folders back to the card and test. Repeat till everything you want is back on the card, or you find a bad file.

OK. If you aren't happy with this phone, and will be happy with an iPhone, more power to you. Personally, I had an iPhone, and I am much happier with my Droid X. But there isn't a single "best" phone that is perfect for everyone. Anyways, hope you like your iPhone. All my friends and family who have one love it. But I really hope some of the advice in this thread and on this forum helps you get your DX running like it should, I really love mine. Try calibrating the compass, and if you do a factory reset, make sure to back up all your apps with Appbrain so you can quickly and easily reload your apps. And then go to AppBrain Android Market - find the best Android Apps and Games and view your apps. Then make a new list and copy your apps on the phone list to the second file, and that way, you can use the second list to reinstall everything to the phone. Otherwise, when you link your phone back to Appbrain, AB will see no apps on the phone and clear your list. But by backing up the whole list, that won't be a problem. Hope this helps a little!

Do you have any advise for a Droid X the can't hold a 3g signal? (By the way, I have already had the device replaced 2 times.)

Don't grip it on the sides...Oh wait, wrong phone. ;)

Does it happen all over the city, or only when your at home or work?

As with any radio, cell phones are prone to interference and signal blockage. I've had cell phones I couldn't use in the kitchen because the fridge and/or plumbing would kill the signal. Notice your environment. If there's a big metal desk, or cinder block walls in your work area, that's interference.

It has nothing to do with the signal or the environment. I also have a Verizon Blackberry. I will sit with one device in my left hand, the other in my right. The Blackberry never drops the 3g signal, the Droid X, drops to 1x on a frequent basis.

I've tried everything and nothing seems to work. I spoke to Verizon again yesterday and they told me that they were aware of the issue but do not have info as to when or if it will be fixed. They also said that the issue was specific to the Droid X.

There is another option *228__ that I can not find and remember what it is. I have done this, and I did not have huge problems, but maybe once an hour my phone would drop 3G for a minute after going to 2.2. Once I did this number and it programmed, no problems with 3G dropping.
are you thinking of *22899? I think it is the same as doing *228 and choosing option 1
