Help will Orange San Frans get android 2.2?

Hello sis ,the term flash their phone means they applied a different rom ie 2.2 etc ,with regards to unlocking there are various places offering unlock codes for a few pounds which will be in the form of a code that you enter upon startup with a another sim inserted other than the orange one

another term used is "root" or "rooting" basically doing this will remove all the restrictive crap that orange apply to all their phone thus slowing down the device and also interfering with the phones full capability

have look at this thread below for more info if you already havent ofcourse

give us a shout if you need more help as im currently in the process of flashing and unlocking my device too ,so still recearching all before i take the plunge and attempt the flashing etc lol

hope this helps

suleman

Ok to get "rooted" you will need to download the two files that are in the first post in the link below

04/Oct r3: Superboot Root + MCRi - Android @ MoDaCo

then follow the guide in the below link

HotUKDeals - Orange Sanfrancisco Rooting and custom ROM install guide - Page #3

and then you will hopefully be rooted and to check you should have the superuser app logo thing in the apps list

now the only thing to do next is to decide which ROM to flash on to your phone which will remove the orange stuff and give you a more responsive device just as the makers wanted you to have and of course all the other tweaks that are involved

some roms are at a charge ie the r4 and r5 on the modaco site ive not yet flashed it and still deciding what to do

one thing that was tricky was to get vista to recognize the device ! as it just would not assign the drivers but i found some drivers online cant remember now ,ill add the link if i can find them

Yes of course there is also an internet radio app called tune in which is awesome. If you havent got the sf yet i suggest you get it the only thing is the camera is whack, but the screen is wicked! Also just a got a tmobile sim only deal that is great for this phone @ only 10 pound a month for 600 mins ,500 text ,unlimited landlines and unlimited INTERNET.

There are literally thousands of apps and im only talking about the free ones lol.

thanx for all the info evri1, much appreciated =) ..just 2 more thingz tho..:
does the SF have a 3.5 mm audio jack?? and which processer does it use?
and im only tech-savvy to a certain point..so wud it b complicated for me to install the custom rom and all that????..it looks quite scary..:O

its not that difficult ,look if you get stuck we will help you that's what these forums are for i didnt know how at start but after reading loads of posts mainly on modaco and when i felt i had some understanding of it then only i attempted it and now lookin back it was a piece of cake !

the rom flashing is easy its just a case of putting the downloaded file on to the sd card ,which is simply a drag and drop from say your desktop to the root of the sd card meaning do not put it into another folder but just add to list of files/folder which are already there

and then to root the phone i found the easiest way was to follow what ive said in post # 7

just moved onto the R5 rom which is the lighetest one with no crap at all with only the stock android apps and it is the best ,im going to be staying on this one for sure the phone is very quick now and also has the proper android boot up logo

Any chance you can point me towards the r5 ROM you're using please ? Is it one of the MoDaCo custom ROMs or was it made by someone else ?

I was looking at this one and considering whether to update :

yeah im on the R6 now its pretty much the same as R5 just a lilttle better and thats the last change for me until i feel that there is a proper 2.2 that i feel is worth the move

remember to download titanium backup and backup your phones apps etc or you may have to re install all that too

and after that do a factory reset / wipe via clockwork then install R6
