Sorry. We are the unloved. Froyo is out for the International version of the Galaxy S, but to my knowledge that's it. I've heard the end of November is when we will be blessed, but I'm not holding my breath. If you want Froyo you need to install a custom ROM.

if you want froyo so bad just flash E's Rom or Master's Rom over at xda im using Master's Axura right now and its great only thing is gps doesnt work and that cool lil brightness feature where u hit the top of the screen and it goes brighter or darker is gone

If all the other DEVS got froyo working except for GPS, Maybe this poster got it working except for his home button???

Collaboration should possibly solve both issues and get us froyo faster???

Then it's not a fully working ROM. The GPS problem is pretty much old news. I mean, that's great if you don't care one whit about the GPS, but most people do. It's i9000 code ported, more or less, to the other Galaxy S phones.

Make no mistake; I respect the devs for their work. But when all is said and done, it's a piecemeal attempt to put Froyo on phones for which it has yet to be released.

I'll never be a dev; I might on a good day have the intellect, but I certainly don't have the attention span. Even so, I know enough to realize how difficult it is to modify these codes.

Consider Android. It has the backing of, you guessed it...Google. Leo Laporte once said something to the effect that if you don't have a doctorate in computer science don't even bother applying for a job there.

How many engineers do you figure they have working code every freakin' day? This is Google, with virtually unlimited resources.

Now consider the devs. These are guys/gals, some geniuses in their own right, working very hard with comparatively meager resources, trying to modify this code to work on specific devices, this after the code being modified by massive corporations who have their own huge banks of resources.

They are collaborating, as best they can. And from what I've seen, they're doing a pretty impressive job of it all. All these things will come to us in time. If you notice that post...it from two weeks ago, and nothing more has been said about it.

I'm not trying to be a jerk. I simply want to point out that there are folks out there working feverishly to get things done...and they do it for free! Because they love what they do. And they give it to shmoes like me!

gps is a huge need for me, and i don't know whats going on with this phone... i've tried several different fixes, but nothing seems to imporve performance.

-Signal is weak 85% of the time (especially in cities)
-if signal is weak (i get the large blue circle), gps freezes all the time
-takes a long time to connect
-i have to restart my phone to use the gps with google maps otherwise the whole thing locks up..

my wife's mytouch slide locks on in seconds and has no gps satelite strength issues... in the same places where my phone fails.

so is this a hardware issue?? is there a fix that everyone can agree on out there? i heard the one t-mo is pumping out now is worse then not having gps at all..

please help... aside from not having froyo yet (and thus no flash in a world where the iphone has been running flash for years), this is my biggest issue with the phone.

The GPS issue is a lost cause. I am assuming you have applied JI6 and still have issues. I think it is best to accept the fact that the GPS on our Vibrant is never going to get any better than it is with JI6.

Things to accept:
1)Accuracy is poor and will always be poor with the Vibrant
2)Takes a long time to find and lock sats
3)Sat signal still drops, and "Searching for GPS" on Google resumes.
4)Your position continues to hop and jump around, and your positions still moves even when you are stationary.
5) Using the GPS on foot with high accuracy will never happen.

The Vibrant's poor accuracy is a let down, also using the Vibrant on foot when you need high accuracy is basically not possible.

I've accepted it, we all got scammed. Samsung most definitely new about the GPS issue prior to the US T-Mobile release, yet they still went ahead with the launch. Then customers were expected to use a defective phone for 3 months while they worked on a mediocre GPS optimization update.

You said GPS is a huge need for you. Thus, I suggest you just accept the fact that you will never get good results on your Vibrant's GPS, and instead put your energy elsewhere. Meaning, call T-Mobile and demand that they either provide you with the option for full upgrade pricing on a new phone from a different manufacturer prior to your 2yr exp date, or have them release you from your contract now without ETF.

Ummm, no, that post has been debunked.

How I the world did samsung fall 2-3 months and counting behind htc and motorola in delivering froyo? It's really embarrassing at this point. It easily could go into january or february at this point.

I have come to the conclusion that Froyo is never coming to T-Mobiles Vibrant. People can speculate all they want but there has been no set date for its release.

Are there going to be a lot of pissed off people? Yes
Is it going to hurt Samsung in the short-run? No
Is it going to hurt them in the long run? Maybe, but probably not

I have had the Vibrant for a month now. I dont have any complaints other than the GPS not working the way it is supposed to, but I deal with it. It's not that often that I use it. I bought the phone for what it was at the moment, not what it would be in the future. I will likely use it for a year, make up some dumb story about it not working and get a warranty exchange. Sell the new phone and move on to something else better. The Vibrant has already been surpassed by so many phones that getting Froyo doesnt mean anything to me anymore, I frankly do not care at this point. And I know I'm not the only one that feels this way.

So, if it comes it comes, if it doesnt... Well then it looks like Samsung and T-mobile have teamed up yet again to make their customers upset. But they don't care because it's not going to kill their sales by any means. A few people may switch to new service providers, and some will buy different brands of phones. But as we all can assume, if Samsung comes out with another amazing phone that blows the competition away on its debut, we are going to buy it! Of course we will then find ourselves in this very same situation say.. a year or two from now. That's how business works. Samsung and/or T-mobile don't really have any huge incentives to release Froyo in timely manner, or even at all. The G2 is the new big seller for T-Mobile and soon the MyTouch will be. As for samsung, they manufacture everything from cell phones to refrigerators. The loss of cell phone sales for the time being is not going to kill them.

That's why I think we havent seen it yet, the incentives are gone and new phones are already shadowing the Vibrant.

But I still love this phone

I'm actually starting to think the same as loweredstandards. It wouldn't shock me if froyo never came.

I do disagree with loweredstandards about the value of froyo. There are already a handful of apps that aren't compatible with versions below 2.2 (the great new youtube app for one).

Samsung is totally blowing it here. There's no excuse that they've fallen 2-3 months behind HTC and Motorola here.

Well Said, i brought my phone last month and there were talk going on about 2.2 comming in oct, but now i feel that i did mistake to go with this as there is no firm promise by them

Not only that, the link is to a 10-day-old story that was thoroughly debunked at the time it was published. That online rag made the same factual mistake some other incompetent players made -- misinterpreting a tweet and a press release from Samsung's U.K. subsidiary about the U.K. to apply to the U.S.

(The U.K. is actually another country across the Atlantic Ocean. Different companies. Different networks. Different hardware. Different firmware. Different dev schedules. Different rollout schedules.)

Even Samsung's U.S. Twitter site expressly stated at the time that the U.K. announcement had nothing to do with the schedule for U.S. phones. The only thing Samsung USA has ever said is that Froyo will come to these phones sometime this year.

This is one of the problems with Android. Every phone manufacturer has their own 'UI', which makes upgrades more challenging. Many don't work, and many end up 'bricking' phones if they are not tested thoroughly.

It's called 'fragmentation'.

You could always get an iPhone, and then S Jobs could dictate what you can put on your phone, and how it looks, and how you can put stuff ON your phone (only iTunes), but there is, at least, consistency and quality when the upgrades arrive on a regular basis.

Even if they do ever release Froyo, it's just too late and is unacceptable.

HTC and Motorola will have delivered Froyo on handsets released around the same time as the Vibrant 3-4 months before Samsung.

In the life of a mobile phone, that's a long time.
