************** installation error code 18 **************

My Evo has been selectively updating my apps for the last two weeks.10 total so far. The market version I have is 1.82 and according to the market troubleshooting page the current version is 2.07 for anyone OVER Android 1.6. So is that my problem? I know its supose to auto update but I tried to force it by doing what the troubleshooting page says and nothing, still on 1.82. The only thing that seems to fix this is to uninstall then install it like its new. I've already lost progress on one game and don't feel like doing that again. Any suggestions? Sprint is no help cuz its a market issue.

It's not a download issue. It downloads fine on 3g and wifi, no 4g in LA till Dec 1. I get installation error code 18-unknown. It pops up right after the download finishes. I think I can connect to g-talk, I've never used it but I am signed up.

For example, today I had an update for an app and it installed no problem. I bought a game and installed a new game and the purchased one won't install. This problem is totally random and im completely confused by it. What's the current version of the market cuz the help page from the market says its version 2.07 and my Evo says I have 1.82...huh? I posted a similar thread on the market help forem and 2 people responded saying they were on version 1.82 also. I'm also not too happy that I spent $200...almost $300 with accesories and Google is NO help cuz you can't contact them directly. I have two friends with heros and they agreed with me. Sprint can't help cuz they didn't make the software obviously.

as I stated, the market has been experiencing some major issues over the past week, they were supposedly fixed and all should be working.

I will keep your question in mind as I am looking through the forums, and if I find an answer I will be sure to post it.

quick notes about android...one you tried

uninstall and reinstall
soft reset/reboot
look at most recently installed apps...did the problem occur after installing one of those apps
when all else fails hard reset/factory restore

those seem to be the easiest fixes to most problems more often than not.

Sorry I'm new here. Last phone was a palm treo that I had for over 3 years. Anytime that one acted up I just yanked the battery and all was well! I had download issues the day the g-maps update came out just like everyone else but then it wouldn't install on WiFi so good old 3g got it through. Which bty my friend is a manager at radio shack and his T-Mobile rep came in and they both ran a speed tester and T-Mobile's 3g is way faster than Sprint. I'll try the factory reset cuz ive already done the others. Thanks for talking me off the ledge.

no worries. remember speeds are going to vary from location to location and that current connection.

I have literally received 8 different speeds between two evos on 3 g standing two feet away from each other running multiple tests.

for the most part..in a good area...the evo has blown away every other carrier. it won't always be the case.

the real fun test is two evos on the edge of a 4g area...one gets it...the other doesn't and just like 3g...the speeds are not consistent at all

explain that one ahahaha

Two solutions actually.

1 - If its an update and the app is on your SD card.

A - move the app back to your phone.
B - go back to the market and now try the update.
This has worked for me 3 times now.
C - after you update the app move it back to your SD card.

2 - If its a new app to your phone.

A - unmount your SD card....don't remove it!
B - install the new app.
C - remount your SD card.
This has worked on 2 new apps that previously wouldn't install on my Evo.
This I completely guessed on and it worked.

Thanks to Mr Ed and mas90guru for your help!!!!!!

Now should apps update and install the 1st time everytime. I guess in a perfect world, yes.
