My husband and I have upgrades coming up in November, I was going to go for the Evo, but I'm a bit confused one Sprint's description of an upgrade.

I have a $75.00 upgrade (don't know why, as my husband has a $150.00 upgrade, but whatever) and it says off of regular price? Does that mean I'd get the Evo for $499.99 -$75.00?

And what are some other good android phones just in case? I don't want to end up getting something that won't be upgraded past android 2.1.

Hi there! I have the HTC EVO. I never did understand that stupid sprint upgrade thing, it didnt do me any good... supposedly im a sprint premier customer too, lol. I waited the two years, and went to Best Buy and bought my evo for 200.00 (with another 2 year contract) Just so you know, the EVO, and the Samsung Epic are being charged an extra 10.00 per month for premium data or some nonsense. and if you want to do hotspot tethering, thats another 30.00, but mine is rooted so they arent getting an extra 30.00 from me. If I didnt get the EVO or the Epic, i was going to go for the HTC Hero. I love my phone by the way, not one complaint at all from me. :) Hope I helped some! :)

Thanks. I had the hero, and hated it, also it's one of the phones not getting any more android updates which sucks.

I didn't know about the extra charges, good thing you brought that up, lol. Damn, I don't know if I'm willing to pay that for "premium data". I'm not even in a 4G network, yet, but I like the big screen on the Evo.

From what I've been told, you can buy the Evo for $200 if you qualify for the $150 discount. Since you're only at $75, it'll be $275 for you. This is what the Sprint csr told me about the premier program.

You might want to double check with Sprint. My sister upgraded her phone a little after a year on my brother's premier account and got the Epic for $250 just like any other upgrades.

Well this sucks, I don't really want to pay for 4G premier data when we're not even in a 4G area, and I'm fine with the 3G at the moment anyway. So my only other choices are the intercept which I think is cute in pink, lol, BUT I've read bad reviews on it, or the Motorola i1, or the hero which I don't want (how can they even still sell that phone if it won't be getting updated to 2.2?).

3 whopping choices? I hope they release something else before November or I'll probably just wait it out.

I hope the Transform comes out, I'm excited to get a new phone, lol, but I don't want to waste my upgrade on something I don't love, and while I'd love the Evo or even the Epic, I don't want to pay the extra $10.00 a month, I like 3G just fine, along with my wifi when needed.

Well now I'm torn between the Sanyo Zio and the upcoming LG Optimus prime, my hubby was having major problems with his exclaim so he got an early upgrade yesterday and got a blackberry. I even pondered getting one as well, but I played with his for a while and don't think I'd like it in the long run.

I have looked at the transform, but it seems similar to my moment and I wanted a little change in phone style.

Doesn't look like the LG has a flash on the camera, does anyone know if the sanyo zio does?

Do either support live wallpapers?

And I have read that the sanyo is kind of weak power wise, I don't want a phone that will be laggy and frustrating.

I like the the optimus is coming out with 2.2, the zio still has 2.1, I'm assuming it's planned to upgrade to 2.2 eventually?

Sprints description of an upgrade allows you to get a new phone at the new customer price (ie 200 for an EVO). If you are a Sprint Premier customer, you can do this on the primary line EVERY year. The additional line(s) is(are) every two years.

Deciding what phone you want is a tough call, especially lately since there are some good ones available. I have the EVO and Love it... i also think the Epic is pretty awesome. If youre worried about the 10bucks, try finding a discount to offset it. Sprint has tons! ...depending on where you work, bank, AAA member, etc. Check here http://androidforums.com/sprint/81670-do-i-qualify-discount.html Sprint gives me 25% off for working part time at home depot. That takes care of my 4G/Premium data fee AND Sprint insurance. :) I wont find a deal like Sprints anywhere, trust me, I've looked! ;)

I think so! I read in another forum (the EVO forum) that someone has gotten a discount for being a AAA member. Never hurts to ask.

Also, depending on where you bank may get you a discount as well. I belived they give discounts to those who bank at certain credit unions.

Your man may be able to get a discount if he is a healthcare worker too. (like the AAA discount, I think I read this somewhere too.)

The discounts are there... Sprint has a lot available.. you just have to find them. Good luck! :)

i noticed your profile shows sanyo zio, do you like it? i played with a working display for about 20 minutes along side the transform (i own an epic). the zio was terrible. not very responsive, no multi-touch, and lags in loading apps. the transform was much better.

you said you own(ed) the samsung moment, want to upgrade, but doesn't want to deal with the extra $10/mon fee, then you should just stick with the moment until later this month or next or january.

unless the moment is one of those that locks up and gives you a lot of problems. the transform is really the best one right now without the extra fee. the LG Optimus S might be a sleeper hit, since it will come out with android 2.2, although it might be under power for heavy users.

Yup, I ended up going with the zio, hubby said it was silly to pay the extra $10.00 a month for the evo, which in hindsight, it kind of is. We don't even have 4G around here yet. Instead I spent the $10.00 a month on BB's phone insurance.

So far I like it, it's a cute little phone, I really love the clarity of the screen, I've installed things I had installed on the moment and noticed little details I'd never noticed on the moment.

My moment was alright, I just like upgrades, lol, and I wanted a change of phone style. I didn't really use the slide out keyboard much. And I also read in many reviews that the transform is pretty laggy as well.

I still have almost 30 days to decide if I want to keep it, who knows. I'm going to use it like I normally would use my phone for the month and see if I change my mind.

It's hard because none of the stores near me have "live" phones, they are all dummy displays, even at the sprint store. So I have to just read reviews online and try and go from there.

The zio can be a bit laggy in the keyboard, I DL'd ultra keyboard because it has it's own built in calibration and it is much MUCH better.

Only thing I miss is the flash.

well, the LG Optimus S is supposed to come out today with android 2.2 (flash supported). check it out. (there are reviews of the t-mob LG Optimus T.)

a friend has an intercept, i'm going to see if she wants the LG instead.

If your a Premier member you get $150 off an upgrade every year on the main line only. All other lines and non-Premier members get $75 off after a year and $150 off after 2 years.

Sprint told me that as well, they were going to charge me the retail price for the zio, minus $75.00, no way was I paying that. I bought through best buy online and picked my phone up in store, and I paid the $100.00 for it as I would have with any upgrade. ;)

I probably will, lol. I am going to try the store in the mall and see if they happen to have live phones that I can play around with. Otherwise, it's hard to choose, I watch lots of review videos to get a feel of the phone "in action". lol.

I actually was all set to head out and exchange the zio the other day because of some of the reviews about the laggy keyboard, but then I thought why bother yet? I'm not having issues with the phone, and I have a month to try it. Then I read more reviews saying the transform was laggy as well. I haven't been able to find any on the optimus S, hadn't thought about reviews for the optimus T instead. Going to check them out.

If you are eligable for an upgrade, you can get the ZIO for 100 anywhere. It sounds confusing sometimes with all that 75 dollars off or 150 dollars off... But, just remember, anytime you are eligable for an upgrade (usually EVERY year), you get the phone for the new customer price. If you're on a shared plan, the primary line gets the upgrade every year and additional line is every other.
