Hey guys.

First off I'd like to say I know nothing about tablets, apart from they seem to be like little desktop PC's.

I'm after one for my girlfriend, nothing too powerful, just able to play games, preferably Angry Birds (I dunno if you can get it on a tablet, told you I know nothing :p), she loves it lol, she loves the Android Market, she's always on my phone downloading games & draining the battery, so I'd prefer her to drain the battery one of these lol.

I don't know how you run tablets, like Internet wise & that.

Looking for a relatively cheap one.

Thanks for any help you can give me :)

What's your price range?... are you willing to order from china to save money But any problems can be a pain and service expensive... I'll buy China <$250 but if able to pay $300-400 can get a better tablet and buy in US like the the one I just posted from Sears.com or one of the Archos tabs being released tomorrow...

Check over on ;

ZT-180

I have 2 ZT-180/ARM11 10in. tablets running 2.1 and I know that there are at least a couple UK suppliers mentioned... they are approx. ~$175-240US so seems to fit... for basic things the ARM11 is okay and once flashed with the latest 1020 firmware which has android market installed you start with pretty much what you need for a low end tablet with a large screen size...

Sounds good at the moment, would it be able to cope with some of the Android games then? Such as Angry Birds and such like, cause I know it does take up quite a bit of memory.

Angry Birds seems to work great based on some comments I've see as I haven't tried it... Games that need a 3axis sensor don't as this only had a 2axis sensor but it's worked fine for a lot of the touch and select games I've tried for my kids...

I don't really know what you mean by 3axis & 2axis, I'm not that bright when it comes to this kind of stuff lol, sorry. It's good to see that Angry Birds seem to run good then, that's all I really want it for, so that's why I don't wanna spend much just for her to play games on lol.

The 2axis allows for screen rotation... basically tip right or left... the third is a gravity sensor that allows for more control like tip towards and away from you... some games I like to use as demo like flight simulator stuff on my Moto Droid Only work with a 3axis sensor...

I think for the basics the zt-180 is a good choice of the cheaper available now tablets... especially as it fits in your price range and does what you want for it now... if you were looking for more full function tablet like something to use for video IM/skype etc. then you really have to spend more for now... but those will be cheaper as time goes on and the zt-180 meets your needs now and does a good job of playing video off the sdcard etc so is at least a bit more than just a fun toy...

wanderer,

I have the ZT180 and as far as I have sen (and I have played with several) this is ONE of the best priced, mid line tablets out there.

Yes it WILL play angry birds.

However, if I were you, if you REALLY want to get a VERY educated answer to your question do what I did when I bought one for my wife.

Make a list with EVERYTHING you can concevibly see that person doing with a Tablet, then set a price, determine a screen size, and then come back here and post THAT and ask the question.

For example, my wife is an RN who wanted an E-reader. I KNEW that an android tab would be a better deal, but that was MY perspective, I needed to see what SHE waneted to do with it, heres what it came down to:

READ BOOKS (#1), Be portable (no 10" for her), listen to MP3's, watch a movie or 2 occasionally (not often jst every now and then) Get on the net via WIFI, Run EPOCRATES (a medical program). Be inexpensive enough that if she decided she didnt like it I could give it to my brother and buy her a Nook.

That led me to the $150 Augen. Now realize I spent a solid month tweaking it for her before I gave it to her so all she had to do was charge and go!

That month allowed ME to determine a few things about it as well.

#1 I REALLY liked it! It did 99% of what I needed, BUT that 1% was a killer. The 2 things I needed that it didnt have 1) a bigger screen - I NEEDED the 10" 2) The market to work (a lot of folks got it working on the Augen, I never could) after a LOT of research I went w/ the zt180

thats my 2 cts

@Mindwave,

I understand why you would have went with the 7in first, because I know my wife LOVES everything portable. But after talking with her about it, came to the same conclusion, 10.2 would be better. The other thing is that she wants to be able to do her online classes with it. Some how her school records the IP and video chat during class. That and pdf files is the most important. I would just need to check and see what I can use for webcam. I guess she could use her cell phone, but don't know the coding to do that or if there was an app that would allow me to do that.
