Desire wins 'Mobile of The Year 2010' whatmobile

Another reason for us Desire owners to be proud of owning this great phone.

What Mobile Award Winners 2010 | whatmobileawards.co.uk

Well done Desire!

Shame it didn't win 'best touchscreen' phone as well, as that went to the iphone 4.

That's simply because it does not have the best touchscreen. And the Desire comes in second/not-at-all in almost all categories but wins best phone overall? I'm surprised that the Blackberry Torch wasn't on there for the business category.

Better battery life is about the only thing i could ask for...

I was amazed yesterday to find a free app on the Market that backed up all of my installed APK's and uploaded a copy across the net to my NAS at home :)

And it's a free app....

It amazes me most days some of the stuff my desire can do....

Because the torch is utterly rubbish....

I know this takes away from the thread a bit but could you qualify this a bit please? If not here, then send me a message.

On topic - I wish they'd specify how they come up with the rankings. The Desire is a fantastic device but there's still room for improvement...some small things like increased storage (I got 100mb free of 500) and a slightly better touchscreen (that's a personal thing and I say this mostly because I've experienced two Desire phones which have had some problems with it). I think the Desire Z addresses these though.

A phone that boasts "social media" richness, yet doesn't allow website category in contact info of friends= "best phone."

A phone that automatically shuts off your 3G when you're on wifi, thus disabling the mail.sfr.fr (outgoing email services) from Vodafone/SFR = "best phone."

A phone that makes a horrible screeching sound every time you turn it on = "best phone."

A phone that makes email notification sounds all night, even after I've turned off every sound I could find (but yes, in the convoluted menu I'm sure I missed a few places to look...) = "best phone."

Boy, if this is the best phone of year, I'd hate to see what next year has in store :-/

Wow, you guys really aren't cool. Where can I go to get some friendly advice for my phone?

And what's wrong with stating what I find are flaws with this phone?

And instead of accusing me of trolling, why not "sell" me on the merits of the phone?
For example, counter my complaints by telling me how, if possible, to keep 3G always on, even in a wifi hotspot?

Mate you have made 8 posts in total. All of the ones I have read have been saying how bad the desire is and how great the iphone is. What do you expect saying this on a Desire forum.

You are entitled to your opinion but expect a bit of a fight

In none of the posts you have made have you explained why...Just ranted that the iPhone was better...Why don't you start??

Oh la la! Where to start? :p it shouldn't be on this thread though; isn't this about "phone of the year" and not "iPhone vs Desire"? To that, I'd like to add that never I ranted about how the iPhone was better; more like how the Desire could be improved. Lord knows how limited the iPhone is, in so many ways.

If you'd care to see my very first post, about the address book and friends' URLs, you'll see that I never brought up the iPhone; just wanted to know if I was missing something somewhere. To me it was a completely innocent post.

And the one where I suggested to the OP that he make sure he's notified his carrier that he's switched from iPhone to Android? I thought it was useful advice, as for the first couple days I couldn't figure out why I wasn't able to send MMS, even in a wifi area. That post certainly wasn't "anti-android."

And the rants I brought up here seem legit, too, non? How to stop the start up sound? How to keep 3G "always on" even while connected to wifi?
Honestly, I was pretty taken aback by the replies

A search of the forum will solve most if not all of your problems. That and not using vodafones crappy software. If you make confrontational posts, expect confrontational replies - Sarcasm and hyperbole don't go as far on forums as they do in real life.

If you read this back and cannot see why other members have got rather miffed about what you posted then there is something seriously wrong.

Please learn to post in a more constructive manner and then you will get answers as for each of your points above there is a simple solution that would fix it.

This phone is all about making it how the user wants it not how the company that produces it wants you to use it. Sure there are a couple of slightly annoying things but as I said above these can be fixed quickly and easilly, normally by a simple market app.

My phone came without a calling plan, so there's no vodofone software installed.
I believe most of my complaints are due to either HTC Sense software or Android.
I've searched high and low, and have yet to find answers to the issues I've addressed.
I can live with confrontation, but being called "stupid" and a troll is hitting below the belt, AFAIC.
But thanks for replying, I will search again and hopefully find how to fix what needs fixin' ;)

I can absolutely see why members would come to the defense of their phones, but as I've stated already, to be called "stupid" and a troll, (who apparently can't write in English?) is hitting below the belt, and seems wholly unconstructive as well.

And all that because I mentioned some things I thought were lacking in the phone?!

I feel like a gay black man at a Tea Party convention!

And my OP about 3G access is withering on the vine.....
