Does Anyone have a HTC Hero on o2 UK?

As title says, does anyone have a HTC hero on o2 UK?
I did for the first year (now on Vodafone)

Where did you purchase the phone?
I got one of the first white ones sim free from expansys

Did it need to be unlocked?
Being "sim free" it arrived unlocked

Any disadvantages of having a hero on o2?
Nope... only on Vodafone now because got better deal through work.

the only prob i have had is that when i receive MMS the pics are TINY. anyone know why?

You're correct that's it's to do with O2 not officially supporting the handset. Iirc it's because they don't offer it themselves, therefore their proxy servers don't recognise the user-agent string reported by the handset and serve up incorrectly-sized images. I read something months ago that explained how to spoof a supported handset with a similar screen resolution to correct this, but I can't remember where.

What are the correct settings for setting up MMS on o2? When I first got my Hero, I tried to use the web link on the site to text me the setting but failed. I called them and they didn't help at all because they don't support it and told me to look at the HTC site.

I used the following to set mine and it seems to work ok,

Press 'Menu'.
Tap 'Settings'.
Tap 'Wireless Controls'.
Tap 'Mobile networks'.
Tap 'Access Point Names'.
Press 'Menu'.
Tap 'Add APN'

Now key in the following settings:

Name: mobile web
APN: mobile.o2.co.uk
Proxy: *LEAVE BLANK*
Port: *LEAVE BLANK*
Username: web
Password: password
Server: *LEAVE BLANK*
MMSC: *LEAVE BLANK*
MMS Proxy: *LEAVE BLANK*
MMS Port: *LEAVE BLANK*
MCC: 234
MNC: 10
APN Type: default

Press 'Menu'
Tap 'Save'

Press 'Back'.
Press 'Menu'.
Tap 'Add APN'

Name: O2 MMS
APN: wap.o2.co.uk
Proxy: http://wap.o2.co.uk
Port:9201
Username: o2wap
Password: password
Server: http://mmsc.mms.o2.co.uk:8002
MMSC: http://mmsc.mms.o2.co.uk:8002
MMSproxy: 193.113.200.195
MMS port: 8080
MCC: 234
MNC: 10
APN type: mms

Press 'Menu'
Tap 'Save'

Keep tapping 'Back' until you're back at your Home screen.
Restart your phone and you should now have G/E/3G/H internet access as well as the ability to send/receive MMS. There is a problem with MMS on Android that limits image resolution to 160x120.

Thanks for this. I didn't have the mobile.web apn one but had the wap.o2.co.uk (didn't know this was for mms) one and was able to go on the net with those settings. Currently using the mobile.o2.co.uk one though :)

Cheers
