Lg lied about update

Hi everyone,
New and pleased to be here. However, I emailed LG about the 2.2 update and this was what I got in response:
"We do apologize to inform you that our technicians and Google Technical Support have not confirmed that the LG ALLY will get this software upgrade. If they do, a release date will be announced."

So, did I miss something? Wasn't it announced the LG Ally would get the update? So, they lied as far as I'm concerned. Not a very reputable business as far as I'm concerned. If they lie about this they will lie about anything. Good thing my 30 days isn't over yet. The adding apps to SD card would have been good though for the memory issue.

I saw on another site (can't remember which) that the update will come after Christmas -or- that LG is going to release an update taking us to Gingerbread (Android 3.0)

Either way, I'll be happy if they just get 2.2 out to us. At least there are a boatload of fixes for the Ally in 2.2. I'd like to see what 3.0 has in it

Rumors, too many of them.

1. If LG didn't say it was coming out at that time then its just a rumor.
2. Gingerbread isn't 3.0 its 2.3 and is only for tablets.
3. Our phones may get 2.2 but it will not have full flash as our processors aren't supported. Maybe Flast Lite?

There's no confirmation (that I'm aware of, and I tend to follow these things closely) that Google will releasing 2.3 for tablets *only*. However, they have said something to the effect of "it's the first version suitable for effective use as a tablet OS".

I'm not sure that LG ever officially said that that 2.2 would be available for the ally. I know it was in a lot of technews sites and forums, but those sources aren't always credible. Was there ever an official word from LG?

That said, a properly rooted and rom'd ally seems to be better than an ally with 2.2 would likely be anyhow with the exception of flash which as others have stated may not work with the ally anyhow.

I think Flash should work on the Ally. I have a D1 with CyanogenMod on it (hoping to port to Ally, as well), and flash works (not always smoothly, but it works). Also, to save battery, you can remove some of the non-needed system apps (Visual Voice Mail, Amazon, etc). This should help, even if only a little.

Some of the other benefits of going to Froyo that weren't mentioned, and I feel are more important than Apps2SD, are: Full Exchange Support; Calendar Sync for multiple accounts (i.e. - no need for Corporate Calendar), Chrome2Phone, updated apps (i.e. - CarHome, GMail and Maps have updates that only apply to Froyo+), just to name a few.

With the updated JIT in Froyo, the Ally will become a little more responsive. But, complaining gets you nowhere, as I found out with the Motorola Devour (forever stuck on MotoBlur/Donut). This is why I switched my wife to the Ally (starting with Eclair, and the hopes of going to Froyo or CyanogenMod).

With respect to Death2All110, I read the statement at the beginning as saying they have no intention to release a 2.2 upgrade and knew this all along. Now, if instead of saying that we would get an upgrade, they said 2.1 was as far as they could go, I would have no problem. This person in customer service, however low in the system they are, is still representing the company. On the chance this true, then the statement they were giving us 2.2 and then reneging could constitute fraud. It could be considered as a scheme to sell more product. In any case, the employee should not have issued that statement. The company I work for made a similar goof, but they made good on the mistake. So, I sit and wait and see how the company will respond.

The new LG vortex coming soon to Verizon seems to be coming with 2.2 on board. And the LG Optimus series that T-mobile, Sprint are getting have 2.2 too. But their hardware spec look very similar to Ally. So I wonder what's keeping them from releasing 2.2 for Ally.
The difference would be in the CPU architecture. The Ally uses an Qualcomm MS7627, and the Optimus/Vortex uses the OMAP 3630.
From my understanding, the OMAP processor has quite a bit more capability than the MS7627.

From what I can gather, it seems LG is letting the rumours run rampant so they can clear the shelves of the Ally. It makes sense, after all LG hasn't stepped forward to say anything different. They could have developed the upgrade. It seems other developers have been able to root and get something going. But the main company, with all it's resources, couldn't? Give me a break! Good thing their PR isn't "We Care", that would be a joke. I work in R&D and when someone issues a statement like the one at the beginning of this thread, it means the upgrade was more of a sales pitch than reality. You can believe they knew early in the game that it wouldn't be economically feasible, either that or they knew they didn't have the talent to accomplish it. So, my question is, what won't they be able to accomplish in the future that they will have to lie about? LG, I'm not buying ANYTHING made by you, now that I know how you operate. My last post anyway, I'm looking at Motorola, at least they came through. I'll be sending my Ally back.

If you honestly believe anything you just typed-you haven't got a clue as to how business operates. VERIZON is the one that has the final say as to what gets put on the phones that VERIZON sells, and it's quite possible that for Froyo to be released for the Ally, some of the "bloatware" VERIZON apps are having to be recoded to function properly 100% of the time. We all know that VERIZON has a clear bias toward their "rockstar" Droid line, and those devices get priority for updates, etc.
