Nexus on Verizon

If you look at the touch buttons on the bottom of the droid and the goolge nexus, they are the same. From what I have learned, all the phones in the "droid" line of phones will have the same buttons across the bottom of the phones.

So what do you think....

i hope so, but if this screen isn't 4.3" (which i don't think it is), then i'll prob pass. I love the droid, but really would've liked a monster screen like the hd2.

however, if reviews come out saying this phone is amazing and the droid doesn't have multitouch implemented and this does, then i might have to reconsider.

Based on the 7 or so leaked pics I just looked at its bigger than the Droid.

If this is the strongest argument that we can make for the phone coming to Verizon then we're in trouble.

For what it's worth, the back key looks different on the two.

Not trying to tell you what to do and no disrespect, just saying....Do a little reading and research and you will find that Google will sale this phone, not anyone else and there is CDMA and GSM versions.

Google is not targeting one provider of service, they are allowing the mass public to all enjoy this phone. You will have freedom and option as to where to go or who to give your money to for any other service that Google is not providing with the phone.

In another post its stated by Google that the buyer of the phone will have an option to have cell service from who they want.

All I can say is wow right now because I am all over the web looking for additional leaks and C.C. in hand to jump on the phone when it pops up!

So if Google will sell this phone directly, will the price tag be outrageous? I read somewhere that the suggested price would be about $500.. that was just speculation but I think that would be really dumb. There's no way a phone with that price could do amazingly well, who can afford to pay that much for a phone these days?.. Not me, I am a poor college student ha.

The speculation is that if Google sells directly you wont be able to subsidize it with a contract like you do with phones from Verizon or Tmobile. Hence you'd pay about the same for the Google Phone as you would for say an unlocked Droid you got off of Ebay.

I thought before when people made mention that the menu button differed from other HTC phones that this might be the reason. Also in some of the upcoming 2010 phone from HTC the menu button is different. Iam expecting which ever HTC phone comes next to Verizon it will be part of their Droid lineup.

I have been following this forum for the last couple weeks so hopefully I have not missed someone else's similar theory to all this. To me, it is clear that Verizon is in on all this. They raised their early termination fee in advance of this development. They release two android phones and attempted to get as many folks to sign new two year agreements as possible by hyping the heck out of one and then offering a killer deal on the other. Now they have all these new people fixed on new two year contracts in which they are paying 30 bucks extra for. With the VOIP on this phone it will be possible to have a data only plan and still use this phone so they want as many people as possible signing the up for the plans that they can make more money on before this phone comes out. Plus they don't have to worry about all these people jumping ship. Verizon has the 700mhz spectrum that Google wanted so naturally Google would want to partner with them. Despite the fact that this is an unlocked phone, I would expect that Verizon, and T-mobile for that matter, will both sell this phone in their stores for a lower price that will be subsidized by a contract.

Your theory would also explain why the Eris launched on the 6th with the Droid, but was only announced on the 5th.

I sorta said this in another thread, but here it goes again... This country's mobile market is predicated on the idea of getting a cheap, subsidized phone on contract. It's different from, say, Europe, and it's how they get the turnover in customers and devices. That being said, Google's penetration into the US market will not go well in a direct, unsubsidized manner. Too much competition. It would be more of a niche device in this aspect of marketing and sale. I think some partnership exists to bring some sort of exlusiveness to specific carriers while not alientating the others. Google will sell this phone to anybody in the US and they'll be able to bring it to their carrier of choice, if they so choose to dish out several hundred bucks, and they'll pay the month-to-month price. However, partners like T-Mobile and Verizon will also have the ability to be a sales channel for the device in a subsidized manner under long term contracts. It's the only way they would be able to get this phone in enough hands. The TMo news website's connect actually commented that you'd be able to get it through T-Mobile.

I love how you all assume the buttons are a requirement for a Verizon Android device. Can anyone post a link to a story online saying that if you're an Android phone on Verizon, you must have those buttons?

The G1, myTouch 3G, Hero and Moment all have buttons that do the exact same thing as the Droid and Eris' buttons. They're just physical buttons instead of being in the screen. Probably the new way those buttons are going to be implemented on all Android phones from now on, and not just on Verizon.

Except that this new way was not exhibited in the 2010 brochure for T-Mobile Europe that was leaked a week ago. That would sorta contradict your notion.

Then maybe that's how it's going to be in the US? I'm not entirely sure, just like everone else here. But, again, that is the weakest arguement for Verzon getting this phone I have ever heard.

Oh, and the Moment had buttons just like the Droid's as well.

The architecture which determines the channel access method isn't in the CPU.
Same as an Intel CPU doesn't preclude your PC from using cable, DSL or dial-up.
(granted that's not an entirely accurate comparison, but you get the point.)
You are correct that everyone will be able to use the processor, we just need someone to build a CDMA phone that has it.

That is an interesting link though..

  • High-resolution up to WXGA (1280x720) display support (better than my first PC) :p
  • 12-megapixel camera support

Also, what's that sexy phone in the pic on that page?

No one is saying its a requirement. Just that if you have a specific line of phones, like say the Droid line, you'd want as many common features as possible. Its not mandatory but helpful (Why do you think the Eris is in Black with 4 onscreen buttons?). But as I have also said for 2010 some HTC phones are changing the menu button.
