Help HTC Sync and Outlook problem

Reading the forums I can see I am not alone with the HTC sync and Windows Outlook problem. I am not sure if the problem is the new Froyo software or the updated Vs 3 HTC sync. But now when I sync I no longer get the contact groups like Favourite or family or indeed any other group which I have created in Outlook. The other problem which is far more problematic is it missing out large numbers of contacts which still appear in Outlook but are missing on my desire.
So far I have tried the following without success:-
1. Deleted all contacts on HTC and re sync.
2. Deleted all contacts in Outlook and reinstalled from backup, and re sync.
3. Deleted all contacts on HTC re booted and then sync.
The only other option left is to do a complete factory restores on my Desire, but I am reluctant as I am not convinced this will sort the problem.
Has anyone had this problem and resolved it, or any suggestions would be welcome.

I'd recommend removing HTC Sync and installing MyPhoneExplorer - it worked for me.

Tried it, and seems a nice bit of software, but! When I tried to delete contacts on the myPhoneExplorer software, it would not have it, also does not recognise the groups in Outlook which is a major disadvantage.
So back to HTCSync

It does seem from reading the forum that it is a Froyo problem, as prior to this update I had no problems.

Anyhow thanks for your suggestion.

Still looking for a HTCsync solution, anyone resolved this problem yet?

The reason I had to remove HTC Sync was because it corrupts contacts so that you are unable to sent text messages from the phone.
The other issue was that it doesn't work on more than one PC. I need to sync with a home and a work PC.
I agree the category sync would be nice in MPE though. However I never got these to work in HTS either!
I hope you have better luck with HTS than me.

I have not had the text problem that seems to be OK on my setup. But I do agree that HTC sync does corrupt contacts. I do like MPE but could not understand why it would not let me delete contacts directly from its software. My first attempt went a little wrong so I tried to start again, ticked all boxes and hit the delete button and they were still there, most strange, have you tried to delete a contact?

With regards to category, this did work for me, and I am not sure if it was the phone upgrade to 2.2 or the htc sync upgrade to vs3 that removed this option.

I know the Google phone is a great improvement to my old Windows 6.5 phone, but the link with Outlook is very poor and also makes Android a poor option for a phone used for business.

Let me know if you find any better solutions and I will do the same for you.

I have checked it out on my issues and the groups are back, however it still is not right in my opinion as I still do not get an identical contact list on both my PC and desire.
I beginning to think it is a setting problem and not the sync software. Why don’t you give it a try, I have both HTC sync and MPE installed and there is no problem, but you do need to make sure you backup your Outlook pst file first.
