hey guys
so i juts rooted my HTC desire but i didn't install a new rom.
y you may ask because all i wanted to do is install most apps to my SD card because my SD card we getting full
I dident install a rom because i found out that froyo was not offering this and i had not updated to it but when i try to update i get a quarter of the way thought installing when the bar disappears and a yellow triangle appears behind the android
i suspect this is because of root.
i would vary much like to keep with OTA updates if possible.
so what would you recommend i do?
proceed with unrooting or update with a RUU or something else?
(FYI i called Talus (my carrier ) and they said if the OTA update dose not work after i do a factory reset( already tried) then i could send it in for repair, so i would assume that would reset all the software on my phone thus not being rooted. would this be an option as my phone is under warrantyor would stock rom but rooted still void it?)
thx

You may need to check with your service provider, but with most, they will void the warranty if your phone gets rooted. Furthermore, from what I understand, OTA updates are only offered by either HTC (unbranded+unlocked devices) or your provider (locked devices) as long as the device is not rooted. Otherwise, you will have to stick to constant ROM updates. OTA updates will not work on rooted devices.
So knowing that (others can correct me if I am wrong), see what you want to do.

oh
i don't have it but that's all i want because im ruining out of space on SD and i hear froyo has that ability.

im perfectly fine with everything about unrooted but i want 2.2 and i would like to keep my warranty.
so even if you could send me a link to unroot for 0.80 and they will take my phone back then im happy :p

ok thank you vary much

so after this if i need to go in for repaire will i be unrooted or no?
because im thinking after i get back to stock i will send it in saying "OTA is not working" that way i can get the official or will that not be necessary?

well im a bit late as you have done it
this is the latest rom from telus
as its a successful flash you are covered by warranty as its official from telus
also it will have removed root access now as its default stock 2.2 for your carrier
if you try and run ota it will say there is none available as you are on the latest.

A good thing about this tho is that you can still root and do stuff as you can use this RUU to restore back to default if anything goes wrong (kinda)
