First off, Hi, new member here.

I am currently with AT$T and not crazy about the captivate or not being able to get unlimited data. So I have been checking out Sprint and found some good deals on either the phone or the plan, but never both.

I can get the evo from studentrate for $299 and 100 mail in rebate. This also includes a discount that makes my monthly bill $63 before tax. I like the discount, but found out that walmart online has the phone for $149 and free shipping.

Has anyone on here found a better deal? Or been able to buy the phone somewhere else then transfer the student rate discount on the monthly plan?

Thanks.

If you have an AOL account Sprint will give you a monthly discount of about 10%. Same with if your a student.

For phone deals hit Radioshack.com. They have the evo web only rate for $159

Virgin Mobile runs off the Sprint network. You can get an Android ... the Samsung Intercept for $249 and then get 300 minutes, unlimited email, data, text and web for $25.00 a month with no contract.

The Samsung Intercept isn't as good as the Evo or Epic, but...look at the savings. The wife and I moved from Sprint to Virgin Mobile and are putting more money into the bank for a "rainy day". :D

From an email I received - StudentRate opened its site for friends and family of students. they can visit studentrate.com and use their own email address (all email extensions will work e.g., .com, .net .us etc) to register.
Select “I am a family member of a Student” during registration
Enter the student's email address (.edu or alternate)
They will receive an activation email automatically.

Aren't the Virgin Mobile phones running on the iDen/Boost network like Sprint's other prepaid services? The coverage isn't quite as reliable outside major metros and where iDen was already strong, but it's always been reasonable coverage.
