WoW! Read This..Do We Really Have 4G Service Then??

based off of what whatever governing body determines these things, none of us have real 4g on any carrier. Besides, ClearWire has some major money issues so I could care less about marketing crap.

So then if this is true, is this false advertising then? What about the extra $10 Sprint is charging users for the non 4G 4G service then? Sounds like a future class action law suit to me.

Sprint has specified multiple times the $10 is not for 4g but for a more robust data experience. IMHO this exposed them much more on the one month of bad 3g speeds, for which there easily could be a class action at some point in the next year or two.

the 4g average speeds expected with sprint are in fact clearly specified by Sprint and I am getting them.

Depends on how you look at it.. Wimax and LTE did not have any set standards for about 2 years while the governing body was setting the standards..

4g was coined during that time.. The speeds that are now the requirement to officially be called 4g standard will be available late next year on Wimax and LTE.. Wimax will probably obtain those speeds first.. LTE will follow closely behind probably early 2012..

Wow, it really gives you a headache reading this thread. A few things.

1.) 4g is a marketing term. Like "More bars in more places." It really does not mean anything. What proof? 3g just must allow voice and data simultaneous and a minimum of 200kbps connection. Do you have voice and data, with a minimum of 200kbps? IT IS A MARKETING TERM JUST LIKE 3G WAS.

2.)Speeds are only in theory. Do me a test. Go here, T1 | Business Broadband & Voice Provider | Speakeasy Inc.. Run a speed test from your normal pc. Do you have 100mbps connection? There is no way in H.E double hockey sticks you are going to get a wireless connection of 100mbps when a fiber optic land line can not do it. You understand? If the fast speeds across the internet is only 21mbps. You are only going to get 21mbps. You are not going to get anything faster, because the internet, in the united states is privately owned mess.

3.)4g is 100mbps mobile, 1gbps fixed, please understand that.

4.) Hspa+ is a marketing term. The only truth it contains is the fact that it can go faster then 3g. But has to use 20hz bandwidth to do that. If you take 20hz bandwidth from a tower, you have taken most of the bandwidth on that tower. Most hspa+ towers get 20-40hz, which means that the magic maximum is only possible with 2 or less people using the system. Depending on the build, speeds drop dramatically once you start adding more and more people.

But let me digress, alphabet soup, warning geek speak.

1g technology fhss/dsss
2g technology tdma/gsm- edge
3g technology cdma, ofdm- evdo/edge/hspa+
4g technology ofdma- Wimax/lte

1g,2g,3g,4g is about how you split of the bandwidth, not really how fast it goes. When you increase the number scale you increase speed, but not always. Thank you Hedy Lamar, with love ROI

1- it's both a marketing term, and an actual standard.
2- the standard for 3g does not require a min of 200kbps- it requires a peak speed above 200kbps.

1- fiberoptic lines can (and do) go much faster than 100mbps
2- the fast speeds across the internet are much faster than 21mbps.
3- because of the infrastructure required to get the 'last mile' up to 100mbps, i'd bet many places get 100mbps wireless before they get wired speeds that quick.

4.) Hspa+ is a marketing term.

you can make that argument with 4g, but hspa+ is actually a specific, defined, standard.
