I contacted HTC about when the Incredible will be getting the new Sense update. Below is the email I got back... it doesn't sound like they plan on updating it anytime soon.

Dear Nay,

I understand that you would like to know if you will get an update for your Incredible for the new HTC Sense. Before releasing a ROM update we have to be sure that the software is going to work properly on your hardware and on your carrier’s network. This testing does take some time but will result in an update that is optimized to work on your device, on your carrier’s network. While we want to release software as soon as we can we will only do so once the software has passed our quality standards.
At this time we do not have any information about an update for your device. When the update is released it will be announced on HTC.com.

To send a reply to this message or let me know I have successfully answered your question log in to our ContactUs site using your email address and your ticket number 10USCW45ENA00160.

Sincerely,

Victor

HTC has always and will always be vague and unhelpful with any questions you ask them. After they botched my repair twice all i got, on an actual phone call, was I'm sorry, next time you can try doing it yourself.

Sounds more like they don't plan on updating the Incredible at all actually... that's what I was getting at.

If they didnt plan to update or were not considering it, you would get the standard.... "We have no plans to update at this time." email. I got that one about an issue I was having earlier.

These standard emails are MEANINGLESS. They dont mean we wont, they dont mean we will.

Dont waste your time trying to read into them.

Well, we already know it will run since we've got a custom ROM of it. Whether they officially roll it out is another thing. Expect non-stop bitching if they don't though.

HTC's reliability standard for software is ALOT different from what a random ROM cook's. Just because somebody slaps it into a "working" rom doesn't mean it would ever pass muster for HTC or Verizon.

(although it does suggest that some form of it could :) ).

I understood that getting the camera working is a work in progress. I may have misheard though. In any case I would think HTC would be able to get it working though.

No doubt, I'm just worried since they made no effort to update the Eris, it might be same story for the Dinc once the Incredible HD (or whatever it'll actually be called) comes out... they want to sell new phones with new tech.

Only glimmer of light I see is that it appears HTC wants to set up its own shop for apps and sell maps.. and hopefully HD would be a big screen alternative like the Droid X rather than a replacement. If it follows the trend of Droid phones, I think I'd rather get the Droid Incredible 2 (if there will be such a thing) since I don't care for a huge phone.

Not to 2.2 though, there was no reason why Eris couldn't handle 2.2.

You point was you were worried they would stop updating Incredible when a new phone comes out, like they did with Eris.

My point was that Eris did get at least 1 update since incredible came out.

Eris was on the list to get froyo at some point. That probably has changed, but I do know they at least were looking into it.

My concern was for HTC Sense and next generation of Android updates, not trivial OTA updates to add bloatware.

Since I can do annual upgrades, I guess it's really not that big of a deal though.

Your point changes on each post. You took a form email which was meaningless and parlayed it into concern they may not upgrade and then end with the fact you update every year and so it isnt a big deal.

Well played.

I need to go find a few "The Wont Upgrade to Froyo" threads for fun. I bet there are a few that went this way.

OK let me simplify this up for you:

I sent a message to HTC. I got a reply and I felt it sounds like they won't be updating the software on the Dinc with the new HTC sense. I'm inclined to think that because of the history with Eris not getting updated to 2.2.

I ended up with "I guess it's not a big deal" because I realized that even if they don't update the software on the Dinc, I can easily get a new phone next October. Just making a statement... doesn't mean I won't be disappointed if they don't update the Dinc with new software. A year is a long time and I'd like to get new android version before I can upgrade to a new phone a year from now.

What I don't understand is why you feel the need to attack me for get angry a simple food-for-thought type question. Don't you have better things to do with your time? I thought this was a discussion board. Why did you even post if you have nothing to contribute? If you thought this thread was stupid, just ignore it.

My contribution was simply (and had been multiple times) that your paranoia is irrational.

1. The email was a standard no answer. I already told you that similar emails were sent regarding Froyo and other issues before the update was ready. You failed to acknowledge this.

2. I hardly attacked you. I just found it interesting you continued to change your point of view.

3. Why buy a phone now/October (especially within 1 month of the Incredible HD coming out) if this is a concern?

4. Eris was updated like 3 times (including an OS update). Incredible is currently being advertised on TV, so they certainly still feature it.

5. I am very cranky right now (medical condition). If i came off as angry, rude, or antagonistic, I am sorry.

Ha ha because I just got the Dinc 3 weeks ago. I'm basically contemplating whether or not to return it next week so I can buy the HD. I keep trying to talk myself out of returning the Dinc since I don't want to pay the price of being an early adoptor for the HD. That's why I'm going back and forth on if Dinc not getting updates is an issue for me or not.

Sorry I just had an arguement with someone and was a little defensive.

Ah..... that explains a lot. I have been through a lot with my phone and at one point was almost having to switch to X or Fascinate and am very glad I didn't. The HD looks so sick but you cant lose either way.

My feeling is that we wont get the Sense update but it is purely a guess. HTC/Verizon are great at sending those vague emails even when the update is only a week or two away. If drives people crazy.

Good luck in making your decision.

The Eris was updated to 2.1 about the time that the DInc came out, also with 2.1. If the same thing happens with the DInc/DInc HD, the DInc HD will be released with the third iteration of Sense, and the DInc will get an update around that time. However, the Eris was never a #1 phone--it was released at $99 alongside the $199 Droid. The DInc was released almost 6 months later, at $199. The Droid was updated almost a year after its release, to a version of Android two point releases after its original version. The Incredible was similarly premium, so I suspect it will at least get Gingerbread, and with it, the new Sense. I'm hoping for Honeycomb, but I'll probably end up getting the DInc HD anyway.

If the Dinc HD is a LTE phone I will get it in April, if not I will wait for a HTC LTE phone.
