random rant about city ID bloatware

can I just say... this app is really annoying sometimes. now that my free trial (that I was unaware of lol) has expired I am relieved. Although randomly, after a phone call, it will pop up asking, "do you want to continue your subscription?" NO I DON'T.

yea I know if I root my phone I can get rid of it, but so far I'm fine with stock otherwise. bloatware... -__- the end.

Seriously, that shit makes me want to cancel my contract with verizon. They have NO right to be pushing this crap on us after we buy the phone. That and the fact that I have to keep verizon's shitty bookmarks and can't even put m yown in front of them really makes my blood boil!

Are you talking about removing the bookmarks in the browser? You can get rid of those easily. Open the bookmarks, open the one you want to get rid of, then open history, find that page you just opened, hit the yellow star that is selected to deselect and....

TADAH! Stock bookmark is gone! now if only removing bloatware worked that way, i'd be on it for city ID! I don't need to know where the phone call comes from. Now if it could tell me other useful things like when froyo comes out (yes I heard around nov 11, but verizon seems wishy washy with release dates for anything, just sayin) winning lotto numbers, it would be gold! :)

bloatware is a pain (i call it crapware) but its the reality of buying a phone through a carrier (even unlocked phones have oem crap on them too though).

really rooting takes care of this, and you never look back :D

i thought i read that windows phone 7's crapware was mandated by microsoft that it can be removable by a user....i think that was one of their carrier mandates or something. if thats true...again...i hope windows phone 7 punches android in the face and forces them to be a little stricter with oems and carriers...not saying dictate what they can and cant do but maybe playing the "we ll hold the market from you" if they dont clean up their acts....one can dream.

When I was at the VZW store the other day I was asking if their was any problem if I sell my X. I didn't know how it worked so just wanted to be sure I could sell it with a clear esn. Anyways the girl goes "Oh sure it's your phone you can do whatever you want with it" Guess what my next question was? :D

I should have pressured her into having them uninstall it. Damn I wasn't at my best that day. I did yell at them for putting ATK on a new customers phone on my way out the door:D.

You know what though? A lot of it keeps coming back because your phone will install updates to the app and thus reinstall them. Do you know of a way to stop that? I also believe the new 2.2 backup restore will keep restoring them.

They just seem like viruses to me. Its certainly takes a lot of effort to keep them out of your app draw. Some of it may be due to me always messing with the phone but I'm blaming it all on the bloatware;)
