Might jump ship BACK to the fascinate

I had the Fascinate when it was first launched had some issues with it (probably just a bad phone) not wanting to risk it I exchanged it for a DX.

Well long story short the locked bootloader is killing me. Didn't think it was going to bother me, but it does. So to the point!

I didn't have the phone long enough to research the problem, but are any of you guys having problems with lack of internal memory? More specifically, after installing the lag fix.

Maybe the original I installed was super huge, but it left me with hardly any memory for apps. Please some one enlighten me on this. Thank you.

I think you had the origional "fake" lagfix LOL
I never installed that, but after installing voodoo lagfix, I still had about a gig and a half left of app space, so no issue with storage what so ever.... and welcome back to the Fascinate community =)

currently the voodoo lagfix is the flavor of the week (ext4). however with the amazing kernel work by jt1134 and birdman, non-lagfix kernels are almost on par (minus benchmarking scores) with voodoo kernels. actually most people are avoiding voodoo atm until jt makes a better version of new voodoo (the current one is buggy)

lack of internal memory compared to the droid x is a pain, but honestly i put most of the sdcard anyway and when 2.2 drops (its like a unicorn at this point) we can moves apps to sd anyway without crazy hacks. do i wish we had the captivates internal storage?...yes...but the captivate is a...well less than attractive phone imo.

i wouldnt say the ext2 lagfix is "fake". it just benchmarks way too high for the level of lag it reduces. does it justify a 900 to 2700 jump in quadrant...of course not. but over the stock fascinate system its a mild help, just not as much (from my understanding anyway) as it helps on sgs phones or voodoo.

it seems the cdma sgs (sf, mes, epic) dont benefit nearly as much from lagfixes (or the way they are implemented). the epic in fact doesnt have voodoo because it would not improve anything. voodoo may not be *as* effective for us because of samsungs bad code (just a thought)

i know the locked bootloader for me (once i actually knew what it was) became more of an issue of principle than an actual limitation.

this isnt soviet russia, bootloader locks you!

its let me screw up my phone if i want, if i brick i wont try and screw vzw and return it.


someone mentioned an idea once that carriers should lock all bootloaders but allow you to unlock if you bring the phone in, wave your warranty and then they tag your esn in the system as a "root" phone.

then you can have at it, but if you screw up on your own tough luck. im all for rooting/customizing, but i also take responsiblity for my own actions and dont soft-brick and run to verizon for a new phone with my tail between my legs.

yeah its not as big a deal as it seems i guess but i still hate that it was done on principle

Yea this is my first day with my SF coming from a X and so far I LOVE IT!! The things you hear don't do this phone justice. I'm happy I switched so far.

Motorola locked their bootloader, and HTC has begun to follow suit with locking down their phones. Samsung probably won't, because they can't even provide software that is far from buggy, and they can't provide timely fixes/updates to their software, so who'd ever trust their developers for any bit of a quality lockdown?

good call, thats kind of a running joke that samsung could try and lock the bootloader but wouldnt get it right

good news at least on the htc front with the z, g2, hd, they got permanent root and s-off the other day. As long as htc doesnt lock the bootloader and just sticks to nand lock then their phones should be hackable going forward (although it takes awhile)
