havnt got a clue all i know is i flashed my phone the same as the video above then updated with SEUS, and hey presto ime on 2.1 phone works brilliant i think when you flash your phone you end up getting the generic 2.1 that is the original software that sony designed without all the vodafone or t-mobile or o2 ect stuff added on to the software before they finally release the update

from what i know- if ur phone is branded, u will have to wait till vodafone release the update (and they dont even have a release date), but if u debrand ur phone u shud be able to get the update, but u will lose ur warranty or sumthin like that.... the video posted above is supposed to be an easy and successful method of getting 2.1, but i havent tried it out yet..

I'm not sure what to make of this:
"am sorry to inform you that till date we have not received any update of android 2.1 getting update on Sony Ericsson X10i.

As soon as we get any information about the update of android 2.1 on Sony Ericsson X10i we would notify our customer.

I trust the above information helps.

Kind regards,
Neeraj Marlecha
Vodafone Customer Services"

Do they even have the update or what? :S

They Dont , From what iv read .. the Update for the X10 is still being rolled out Officially ( Through networks etc) The only other option if you cant wait is to take the risk and go for the other process .. (The video Posted up there ) Dunyno1 which Country are you from ? teh updates are also contry specific .. sadly !!

I'm from UK. I would have thought Vodafone would have the update already and be adding the pointless 360live apps? Perhaps they should pretend to be Norwegian...;)
Yeah it seems like the only way to get it this month would be to debrand, but voiding my warrenty just for a buggy software update? I dont think so! looks like I'll be waiting for a while... :(

I am with Vodafone, but when i connected my phone to my computer today and opened up SE PC Companion, I was provided with the option of updating Andriod to 2.1.

I have done this, and my only problem is I am unable to restore my contacts. However, now reading this, I am very worried I have somehow voided my warranty. Surely this isn't the case as I got the update direct from SE? There was no mention of the warranty being voided if I proceeded with the update.

Please advise?

Also, does anyone know how i can restore my contacts? I have managed to restore everything else. I read somewhere i should download the lateast back up app from SE and then try to restore, which i did, but once I downloaded it I got the message that this cannot be installed.

i'm not very knowledgeable about this sort of thing. please excuse any typos.

Cheers

If you got the update directly from SEUS then you haven't done anything wrong .. so your warranty will be intact ... All of us who don't have the update yet for our regions are talking about other ways to update our phones ( That process will void our warranty) .. you don't have anything to worry about when it comes to that topic .. as for your contacts .. did you use the SE Back up and restore on ur handset ? also doesn't SE pc companion give you an option to also back up ur contacts before the update .... what error msg are you getting ? ..

Thanks for your response.

FYI I am in the UK.

I followed to the letter the instructions provided by SE. I downloaded the latest back up and restore app from the SE website, www.m.sonyericsson.com/backup, and followed instructions to back up.

When i try to restore my contacts, it gets to 96% complete, sticks a bit, then confirms the restore is complete. However, i have no contacts still. if i go to my contacts, then import contacts from memory card, then Phone contact (the other option is my gmail account) i get an error message saying "Coul not read memory card ("No vCard file on memory card")

I don't know what thsi means. I tried to download the latest back up and restore function again for my updated phone. It downloaded fine, but when i try to install it, i simply get the message "Installation failed" with no reason why this has happened.

Any suggestions?

To my surprise, I've just checked my contacts as I've typed this, and some contacts have appeared in my phone book. However, these are not the contacst as i backed them up a couple of hours ago. I think they are my contacts that i backed up to sony ericsson synch when i got my phone a few weeks ago. I've majorly updated my contacts since then and I do nto want all these back on my phone.

a) how has this happened? Am i correct in thinking my phone is somehow automatically synching with SE Synch?

b) how do i stop this happening?

c) Any suggestions how i can retrieve the contatcs that i tried to back up to my card?

thanks very much for your help.
