Unable to Reboot to Recovery

Hello,

First, I am using a CDMA HTC Hero (sprint). I have rooted the device via Universal Androot which worked flawlessly. I am now trying to flash a custom rom, which is already loaded onto my SD Card (Red Dawn). Here in lies my problem:

Using Rom Manager, I flashed the ClockworkMod Recovery successfully but when i chose to ""Reboot from Recovery" the phone gets hung up at the white HTC boot screen indefinitely until I battery pull.

I have tried many, many different approaches and am now seeking some desperate advise as to how to get into recovery mode so i may flash the new rom. I have tried to enter recovery manually (vol down/pwr on) only for it to get hung on the HTC screen as soon as I chose recovery. I have tried to "Flash Alternative Rom" and the re-flashing the ClockworkMod Recovery all to no avail.

ANYONE have any tips/suggestions/ideas on what I am doing wrong and or need to do?

My honest suggestion is to ditch Clockwork and use Amon RA.

Just a side note to keep in mind , any backups done with CWM will not work with Amon RA , just a side note

Edited it seems you can switch between recoveries but I personally have not tried, here is a quote from another thread

If you use Fresh ROMs, Flipz' Fresh Updater requires the Amon RA recovery image to flash ROMs, themes and updates (you can easily swap from Clockwork Recovery to Amon RA and back with ROM Manager). Last month, there were posts at other sites questioning whether Clockwork was performing a proper Dalvik cache wipe. I don't know if these issues have been resolved or not, but the scripts used in Fresh Updater are still incompatible with Clockwork.

Flash the recovery again, even though it says a successful flash, try again

I had, what I believe is the same problem, not to long ago. No matter how I tried to "reboot into recovery" I could not get there. I tried the ROM manager's button. I tried rebooting holding down the home key. And I even tried going through the bootloader screen (holding the volume down key while rebooting). Everything lead me to either stalling on the HTC screen, or the phone shutting down and not responding. Either way I needed to pull the battery to get things running again.

The solution;
--Open ROM manager.
--Scroll down to the bottom and click "Flash Alternate Recovery"
--After that is done running. Flash the ClockworkMod recovery again, at the top of ROM Manager.

Then I was able to reboot into recovery.

Hope this gets you there. I know it was driving me nuts trying to find my recovery.

Not to jack this thread, but it seems like all these one click "easy" rooting methods all have a hitch with the recovery. I have NEVER had an issue with my recovery, been running it for 8 months now. I think that there is something to be said for the old school traditional root methods. It may be more time consuming, but you learn a lot more about the way everything works, and can troubleshoot if there is a hitch.

Not saying that the new methods aren't any good, just an observation I have had as of late..... To the OP, good luck I am sure you will find some good advice that will help.
