Yes, it is possible. There are certain parameters if you intend to make your own however. Here are a few threads worth reading:

I believe you need to be rooted to do these things. Not entirely certain though...it's been a while since I did any of this. I use custom ROM's now, and it seems they always dump the stock garbage.
