my 2 wks old SGS is sooo slow and the screen do not easily move if i swipe. Is it because of the applcations I installed? i want to root it but im scared my fone might brick.

The SGS is notorious for slowing down after a couple of weeks in use and yes, if you have a lot of Apps installed this won't help.

As you have already mentioned, Rooting will help but performing a LagFix will make it fly and improve the Quadrant score no end.

Don't worry about all the complecated methods of rooting and lagfix.
The easiest method is a two App affair.
1. Get hold of RyanZA's z4root and root the phone.
You don't need any third-party software or a PC, just the App mentioned.

2. Get hold of RyanZA' OCLF and LagFix your phone.
Again, just like z4root, OCLF does not require a PC or other software.

Yes, it's as simple as that.

ok before i root my phone, a few more questions from a newbie like me:
1. if i root my fone, what will happen aside from fixing the lag?
2. will all my apps be gone after rooting?

Nope, I followed the advice of Beards above and installed both apps tonight, on my UK Galaxy S with 2.2 installed.

I rooted using the first app, then I installed the one click lag fix.

The first attempt at rooting didn't work, but once i restarted my phone and tried again it was rooted within 30 seconds.

The lag fix has worked wonders

As for your questions, 1, rooting doesn't fix the lag. Rooting gives you the ability to fiddle more with your phone, and thus install the second app, which does fix the lag. It doesn't change anything else other than elevate your phone-fiddling privileges, all your settings and apps stay the same. It should also be completely reversible.

You should be fine. z4root is not OS dependent.

Is it REALLY that simple? I have always been very scared to root my phone lol.....It says on the XDA forums that this should be extremely safe. I can trust this, right? I won't end up bricking my phone? Sorry....very scared non-tech guy here

I can't give you an absolute guarantee Gents but for those that have tried it and it did not work it simply did not install.. nothing more.
But I can understand your concerns....

Why not sit on it and give pause to thought... Take your time and give it til the weekend or later. At least it will give you both time to find out any other problems.

I looked at the XDA forums....nobody complained of having their phone BRICKED but the root failed on several phones (none of them Galaxy S). It looks promising but I'm still scared

That's the idea... Get as much info and ask as many questions as you want either here or in xda-devs. Only do it when you both feel comfortable.

As to rooting and upgrading ~ Rooting on it's own will not effect upgrading. I know members who have upgraded on a rooted phone. However, having said that, for complete safety you can always unroot using RyanZA's z4root. It not only roots but unroots as well.

Right, we have taked about rooting, now lets talk about Lagging and applied LagFix's.
As already mentioned, rooting should not effect an upgrade (but I'd still be inclined to unroot prior to an upgrade). However, in the case of a LagFix you MUST remove anyApp that is used to do a LagFix before doing an Upgrade. Again see RyanZA's OCLF for removing any applied LagFix.

If your phone is completely frozen take the battery out, wait 30 seconds ,put it back in and try again.

I was nervous about rooting too but to all you guys/girls that are scared to root your Galaxy S, don't be! It really is easy, fast and simple.
My friend and I just did the root and lagfix suggested by Beards, and it worked like a charm. Took a few minutes, his crashed the first attempt to root (worked first time on mine), but we re-started and tried again and all worked perfectly.
Applied The lagfix, I used V2+ and you have to install EXT2 tools first.


I tried Quadrant before and after to test how much of a difference it made if any, and my results are as follows:

Standard: 965

Rooted/lagfix 1645!!

I would definitely recommend it if you are having problems with lag on your phone.

Did you try like seepage says. Quite often we hear of users mentioning a failure but a retry often does it in the end....

Hey Softpinketc.
Mine did the exact same thing. Taking forever stating "running exploit in order to obtain root access" and nothing happened then I tried restarting phone and that helped. It took around 5 minutes or so and getting past the "running exploit..." thing fairly quick.

As regarding the lagfix
I first installed the ext2 stuff on to the phone and then tried running lagfix v2 SOME 3-4 times with fail every time. Then I read somewhere that removing your SD card before running lagfix helps. And behold it ran without any problems what so ever.

Hope you succeed as lagfixing the SGS is sooo sweet...
Samsung should pay RyanZA for making these 2 apps so easy and simple

yup same thing happened to me, first root attempt with z4root hung, had to restart and try again and worked a charm.

Best quadrand score ive had now after rooting and lagfix is 1876.

Why dont samsung offer these fixes as standard...
