Help voice to text not working

I just bought the phone and the issue i am having is when i use the speaker system to type out the contact in the message box, it will get the name right, but it will add a space behind it. This causes the phone to not pull up the contact at all because when I want to text my dad, i say dad and end up getting the phone trying to find dad_.

If i didnt have to click the text box, then the contact box again to delete the space and then find his contact, i would be cool with my droid. Apologies, I am brand new to smart phones, but I have done nothing to the phone at all, the very first thing I tried was this.

Hold down the Search key, that should bring up the true voice search. Rather than the keyboard thing. If that doesnt work, download Google Voice Search
