Just have to vent some...and maybe in doing so someone will read this and have a solution. I've called HTC and Verizon a couple times about not being able to upload videos to Facebook or send them in a txt message. Well...I was able to send in a txt message but only 10 second videos and only aftr I dropped the resolution all the ay down to lowest setting and changed some of the other settings. When I call HTC they pin the blame on Verizon and the network. I just got off the phone with Verizon and was told the problem is that due to the Incredible's great camera the files are too big to send over the network. Yet I can watch a 5 minute video on Youtube over the same network. So how can the network limit the size of a video I can send in a txt message but still allow me to watch a 5 minute video on Youtube?? Something doesn't make sense here at all. 2 phones ago I had the env 3.....could send 30 sec. videos in txt messages....stepped up to env Touch after that.....could send 60 sec. videos....now stepped up to my Incredible and took quite a few steps back in the ability to send or upload videos. Don't get me wrong...I love my Incredible (best phone I have had so far) and have had no problems with Verizon in the 12 yrs I had them. Just seems wierd that a "smart" phone can't top or even come close to what my old LG env 3 and env Touch could do....HAHA.

It is because of the size of the files like they said. I believe it was that anything under 5 megs can be sent out (can check the details of the files before you try to send them to confirm how big a file can be).

Also, part of the latest update that is rolling out was supposed to increase the size of files you can send.

I have received the update and no change. The guy at Verizon told me that the increase in attachment size was only for gmail accounts. I just find it hard to believe this can't be done.

I just don't buy the fact that the network limits it. I can watch a 5 minute video on YouTube on the same network. I just think that nobody has an answer and that is the best answer they can think of.

first, dont attack the people you are asking for help.

second, streaming a video is WAY different from sending a video. In the settings of my camera, from the MIUI ROM, it reads:
Video Quality:
-High (30m)
-Low (30m)
-MMS (Low, 30s)
-YouTube (High, 10m)
-Custom

Choosing the MMS setting, I have recorded:
-30s: Could not send
-25s: Could not send
-24s: Could not send
-23s: Could be sent
-22s: Could be sent
-21s: Could be sent
-20s: Could be sent
-15s: Could be sent

I agree now I guess with your original argument. Its annoying that it is so picky but at the same time who are you sending a 30 second video to? Are they viewing it on their TV? No? Who cares about quality, chances are you are sending this to someone who is looking at it on their phone, and they probably have a smartphone...so email it.

Use Qik, it streams the videos live and places them on Facebook no matter how large. I send my to Youtube and Youtube shares them with everything else I want them shared with. You don't need to be on Wifi either, it does so from 3G as well.

Well.....first off I am not attacking anyone. Don't know what made you think I was. And I understand the e-mail concept....but not everyone I know has a smartphone.....and still doesn't solve the problem about uploading videos to Facebook.

I loathe FB, so I can't help ya there.

However, I can help you to understand the messaging having a limitation under that of the video.

If you go to youtube, and watch a 5 minute video, you stream that video from the website to yourself, the end. This means Verizons network has to to transfer the data of the video 1 time, and stores none of it.

If you send a video through the messaging system you must first upload the video ( theres 1 transfer of data ), it must be stored on verizons systems, then when the recipient tries to open it...it is downloaded for a second transfer of data.

So, as you can see theres already a fair difference. Now consider message forwarding and CCs. You could send your 1 video to 10 people, who each in turn send it out to 10 people. Thats an initial 1 upload and 1 storage followed by 10 downloads. Now, when they each upload it for 10 uploads, the network can't really know they're all the same file. It has to treat them independently...so now you are looking at 10 new copies stored followed by 100 downloads. That's a total of 121 transfers and 11 copies stored on their system. Compare that to instead say sending a simple text link to the youtube vid ( text being such an obscene amount tinier than video that it's insignificant. ) where you would have gotten only 100 transfers straight down and no copies stored. Doesn't seem like much, until you multiply it by several million. A 21% increase in transfers, and the amount of storage quickly becomes extremely significant.

Yes, your internet is unlimited and most likely accounts for way more of your network usage ( I for example manage 30+ gigs most months )...but this too is on it's way out due to the load it is putting on the network ( because of people like me...sorry. )

It's not a perfect answer, but it should at least help you to understand a little of whats going on here.

Maybe because your old phones had 1.3 MP cameras versus the 8 MP on your incredible

So you could do 60 seconds on a 3.2 MP. And 3.2 MP is 40% of the Incredible's camera. That leads me to believe that around 40% of the video duration able to be sent should be possible on the Incredible. 23 seconds is 38.3%, seems pretty logical to me.

I just think that nobody has an answer and that is the best answer they can think of.

Thats what made me think it, but reading it again made me realize you were referring to Verizon & HTC. My bad.
