police scanner app?

just curious if anybody knows if theres an app for this or anything in the works? My and i usually like to go mess around with some other dub owners around the island and he keeps the police scanner app out. its saved our butts a few times and would be awesome to have on my droid.

i already have an escort 9500ix that has gps with all that shit programmed in so i wouldnt need that

I'm sorry, I misunderstood what you were looking for. Trapster operates based on other users' reporting. People mark known locations that police use as speed traps. As for an actual active police scanner, I'm not aware of such an app existing.

There is one called "police stream" , I have used it a feww times and it seems ok.

I did get to listen to the last Shuttle launch via the app, that was cool.

They update every so often with more channels.

Im getting my droid wednesday so i cant try it out now.. for the droid live lite app how do you go about adding streams? what number does it need?

I like this idea but how do you do it? I downloaded droid live lite but when I search for radioreference and it doesn't find it. Are you able to add it manually?

I have droid live lite working and found my local police scanner on the site refercned here. But I havnt figured out how to get the stream from the radioreference site into droid live lite. Can you give more details please?

Edit: I figured it out. I went to the mobile section of the radioreference website and got a link to the mp3 stream i wanted. It works pretty well.

RR Mobile

Navigate to the country/county you want to monitor and you will eventually get to an MP3 link. Paste that link into a favorite as a url in your radio live ap.

if anybody has the policescanner app installed would they mind checking out what frequencies they get for suffolk county, new york? would be nice to know ahead of time.

im looking for suffolk county police, farmingville fire department and possibly suffolk county sheriff if its there.

thank you so much Jef, exactly what I was looking for. I'd assume the Suffolk County Police would consist of all the county police and im praying that the constabulary might be the sheriffs. looks like im going to have to listen to my towns fire department through droid live or another streaming program.

hi, i use police stream like every day, listen to fdny so i can hear what i missed wile on vacation, just wondering what channel you listened to the shuttle launch on? me and my kids would love this

and for the member from farmingville, i live in sound beach and listen to the suffolk feeds alot also. this is a great app. i just wish they broke down what freq were being covered, but at least with the map option, you can select the feed closest to you.

Hi and thank you for this tip! Unfortunately I get "Unsupported Format" when trying to add the url into Droid live. The URL I am trying to use is

This is fine if you just want some uncontrollable Audio streams, but I have a RadioShack PRO-106 which coupled with Don Starr's WIN500 application provides not only audio streaming audio from my scanner, but also remote control of my scanner. Don Starr only provides a Windows Mobile client at this time so there is no Android app that can do what his Windows Mobile app does.

So, is there an Android programmer that has the RadioShack PRO-106 or PRO-197, or the GRE PSR500 or PSR600 that would be willing to contact Don Starr to hopefully get his Windows Mobile Client source code and port it over to the Android platform?
