Captivate vs Xperia x10

Can anyone share their 2 cents with me on the topic of the Samsung Captivate with the new 2.2 OS and the Sony Ericsson Xperia x10 with the new 2.1 OS?

I am going to be a new Android user with little to no experience with Android phones, and I'm going to be stuck with the phone with a 2 year contract with AT&T and I do not want to make a bad decision.

Any helpful thoughts you can share?

I returned the X10 the 2nd day i had it. I couldn't stare at it for another second. I brought it last week and couldn't stand the 16K color and extreme lag. The Captivate is much much better.

Reason why I brought the X10: white is available
Reason why I returned it: Slow, extreme lag, poor color support

You will be much better with the Captivate even without any lag fix, trust me on this.

Also, I forgot to mention that the x10 does not support multi-touch... not sure if its hardware or software related. So, no zoom with fingers lol. If you decide to get it, you can still zoom by tapping the [+][-] icons each time and wait ~10sec between tap for the phone to update. LMAO!

You can try the phone out and return within 30 days if you DO NOT like it. AT&T have a 30 days return policy. They will refund the upgrade fee and any charges if you return the phone within 30 days.

X10 is good phone if u r sony fan (even tho its made by HTC).

Good things abt X10: The Looks, GPS works, Music quality.
Downside: No muiltitouch, bad screen display...

Also both phones have 2.1....but I am sure captivate with beat any other phone when it gets froyo (not expected till Q1 2011).

The X10 just got the Android 2.1 update a little over a week ago. Can anyone confirm that the upgrade from 1.6 to 2.1 didn't get it multitouch?

viny2cool, where did you hear this: "when it gets froyo (not expected till Q1 2011)."? Everywhere else I have seen, it is supposed to be available in late November for US Galaxy S phones.

Dude all my post has language of guessing...as I said keep your fingers corssed and hope for the best.

I am completely guessing, I don't know for sure. everyday I read lots of rumors, but no official announement from Samsung. Also another opinion was, that they were waiting for the release of SGS tab...so we might be able to see it soon..

But again Just guessing..

I am in the same boat, which phone to pick? After much research I have decide to go with the Samsung. The Captivate has and android 2.1 while the S.E. has 1.6 still, sure the update is out but not in the US yet. Captivate has the multi-touch where the S.E. does not and never will due to hardware. Now I am reading that S.E. is releasing a new phone that is meant to be there flag ship. Another big plus is that Costco has a coupon for a $100 off, so Both would be $69. So I think it will be the Captivate for me

Just took my Captivate back and got the X10. I loved the Captivate but it was wy to buggy. Lot of force closed issues, screen lag, email isuues even with gmail. I am. Enjoying my X1 and I have not had any of the issues I jad with the Captivate. I know the X10 will get update very soon. And if you are a true music lover this is a grea phone. But to each its own.

You sure you didn't insert the word "X10" to where "Captivate" should be?

there is no way in hell that the x10 beats the captivate,,the specs dont and the day to day operations dont,, battery life cap is 30% better then x10,, in call volune cap is 100% better,,screen cap is a good 30% better,, keyboard cap is 100% better,, camerea goes to x10,not sure what the music lover has to do with either phone, and im sure 2.1 is the last update for x10,,where i just have a gut feeling captivate will easily get 2.2 or maybe more,,

oh ya lets not forget to talk lag,,, a 3 legged dog doesnt lag as much as the x10

If you like buggy phones then the captivae is for you. The phone is neat but to laggy and stuff Hey just buy the captivate and when it starts actting up just send it back and get the x10. I guess because. I have been an iphone user for the last 4 years I was used to smooth non laggy, non buggy phone. The x10 gives me that same smoothness with the cool android os. And guys don't get so offended and start defending the cativate so hard like you mde it and are getting paid off of it lol... its. Just a phone.

Ofcourse you like X10 as you came from Iphone. Captivate is very good hardware which can be made very smooth with using it in right way.

Best of luck with stupid X10, even SE is planning to stop making it now and coming up with some better phone.

wow....i am the complete opposite....to every single thing you mentioned.

i got a x10 at end of last august and it was a lemon. forced closes constantly. only positive was good gps...when it wasnt force closing. but other than that...it had no multi touch, will never have multi touch. was slow. laggy. that stupid timescapt memory hog and useless feature.

i waited and waited..for the captivate which for me here in canada was looooong delayed for mths...but since getting it (have had it for a few weeks now) it is freaking awesome.
multitouch.
gps works....sure i often have to wait 30 secs up to a minute, but it works.
the performance is great. the swype typing is revolutionary. i love this phone.
i haaaaaaaaated the x10. i got it based on looks only to learn no multi touch and crappy lag and forced closes so often i wanted to smash it into little bits.
the captivate with its brilliant amoled screen is awesome. i was given a samsung wave loaner and it uses touch wiz and i thought i would hate it but i got used to it and by the time i got the captivate it was a smooth transition.

this is like comparing a junker car to a new porsche. you shouldnt even be comparing these two...maybe any other new well featured smart phone and the captivate...but the x10 vs the sammy? no way.

To the "OP", do NOT, say again do NOT get the x10 (Don't say you were not warned)!!! I am in the states, as are you and using AT&T, again as are you. the X10 has 1.6 OS and AT&T has not announced any dates on when it will get updated to 2.1 if it ever does, in other words, there is a very good chance that AT&T will never upgrade this phone to 2.1. Since we were at least 6-9 months behind the X10 release in Europe, there is a really good chance that SE will not even release the OS to AT&T for that same time period. All speculation at this point. However, on a confirmed statement, I emailed AT&T 2 weeks ago and specifically asked them when we with the X10 be receiving the 2.1 update. The answer was, "Has NO idea, not anytime soon". Of course you could buy the phone, void your warranty and root plus debrand your phone, if you are a very tech savy user. After you do that you may at a later date upgrade to 2.1 (Without going through AT&T), however, no one in the USA with an x10A has been able to do this as of yet.

So, again I say, Stay away from the X10! In regards to "Multi-Touch", it is confirmed by SE that this phone will NEVER have that feature from them! Also per SE, the phone will NEVER get the 16M color spectrum, we are and will be stuck with 64K. To lock it solid for you, the LED flash, doesn't work either. It comes on, but not as a camera flash should. There is an app in the market that corrects this, but it is piss poor that SE didn't get this right from the start, and now we have to PAY for for an app to do it!

In closing, I wish I knew then, what I know now and the X10 would never have been purchased. I like many bought the phone last summer, when SE was saying the 2.1 update, MT and 16M would be done and on our phones by the end of Sep. Than they cancelled that date and the crap started to come out..

STAY AWAY!

**EDIT: The sony has just reg music through the ear buds or what ever you use. The external speaker is garbage. The CAPTIVATE has virtual Dolby 5.1 with the head phones on. WAY better music!!!

I have had a Captivate for months and it is JUNK! It locks up, it won't communicate with none of my computers; the GPS stinks, and it downloaded over 5 GB while i was sleeping and cost me $30 in overage fees from AT&T. I have had 4 Ericsson phones and never had a problem and regret getting this JUNK!

I hate touch screens; give me good, reliable buttons any day!

I don't understand all this hatred for the X10. I love the new 2.1 update and don't think I'll trade it in for the Galaxy S. I'm sorry, but Samsung may have great hardware, but their software...non-existent. At least SE is just late. Last Samsung I had (Omnia HD) was just a wasted piece of fantastic hardware.

Also, the phone is a bit laggy from time to time, but nothing that is unbearable.
