Root Before I go any further... (Flash 10.1 question)

I was under the impression that if I rooted I could get flash player 10.1 to work on my phone. Well I am rooted, downloaded a copy of the flash player apk and it will not install. I see stuff about Odin and Clockwork so do I need to install these first or do I actually have to wait for 2.2 to get full flash? Any help would be appreciated .

Does Skyfire not work for what you're trying to do?

Skyfire is hit or miss on most sites. I mainly watch a lot of the sports games streamed on the net. I'd like the option to watch an episode of Family Guide every now and then too :D.

why go back to stock just because of that?

Well I was mainly interested in full flash. The ROMs, themes and overclocking are a little too complicated to me and I don't want to bork my phone especially if I have to send it back in for a replacemnet and like the previous poster said I would like to be able to get the official froyo update when it does become available.

don't see why, well maybe with the new perm CW, but the original one is just an update.zip on your sd card.

yeah, you never know with hacking/otas :)

i mean like we all say root alone 99.9% wont stop an ota but it really depends on how vzw programs it....the vzw servers check your phone for certain files to make sure its not up to date and that you have all of your ducks in a row.

anyway, just if you want the ota be as close to stock as possible or remove root with te/adb. personally i dont know why anyone would want the ota when it comes out so quickly in irc/xda pre-rooted or optimized

especially with droid x/d1 2.2 ota fiasco that left a trail of bricked phones in its wake

Thanks for the site suggestion NOsquid I will check it out. I was going to try to go back to stock this weekend but I see the general consensus is there is no benefit. The only thing I don't want to do is bork my phone and void the warranty. That being said since I have you guys here maybe you could answer a few questions for me. I've been reading about a lag fix but also reading its not a 'true' lag fix so would it be really worth installing? Also would I have to install one of the kernels to improve my battery life or can I just use JT superclean rom? And before going any further with any of this is clockwork and Odin absolutely necessary? Thanks for any info you can provide .

You need Odin to install Clockwork, you need Clockwork to install ROMs and kernels.

The old lag fix from the market is useless, don't bother. The Voodoo lagfix does have an effect, but it might be more trouble than its worth in its current form. In your case I wouldn't do it since you're already gun-shy. JTs rom might help your battery and lag, a low volt kernel may help your battery, or undeclocking your phone if its really that important to you. I'd just get a spare battery.

interesting thing the other day. my incredible pulled the mr ota from verizon even with clockwork recovery and running a custom rom  it was shocking to me. granted i had restored the stock htc kernel because my wife is using it and it was a sense based rom that contained most vzw bloatware, but still...it blew my mind.

i couldnt get rid of it easily either even removing the updater.apk because it was already in the system. i had to data wipe and then load the newer rom version and remove the updater before it pulled the ota again.
