Help T-mobile - best way to froyo

OK guys, I am now officially fed up waiting on tmobile froyo upgrade, it may happen someday but that really is not good enough. Can anyone either post a step by step manual update process and the best files to download for a UK phone. I presume Odin needs downloaded etc but what else. I think my phone is network locked but not 100% sure.

not sure about kies as it really is a useless piece of software apart from providing the drivers you need for a pc. if its any help I lost no data going the route of Odin apart from my phone desktop icons, which just needed dragged and dropped to the correct screen from the applications menu. If you do use Odin make sure you remove any lag fixes you have installed (if applicable)

had a good read about odin, downloaded files and held my breath, all went well and now on JPO 2.2. Is JPO the best to be on for the UK

That's the official version, I have this installed on my unbranded SGS via kies.

Will all my data be lost when updating via kies??

I know I need to backup contacts etc But what about my apps??

Cheers

When I upgraded via KIES I kept all my information/apps/photos/video's etc, but to be honest I would factory reset after you install anyway as 99% of the things on the phone are easily re-downloadable again except maybe text messages?

I factory reset my handset after I upgraded and my friend didn't, his seems to run slightly slower then mine but I don't know if that's just coincidence or not.
