Sprint Hero HAS BEEN ROOTED@!

What is "Rooted"?

You must be new here.

Rooted means you have manipulated the Operating System to gain full access to the system itself. Meaning you can execute commands and run programs as a Root access process. Basically.

So after rooting your phone, you can do things like installing items not previously allowed, or change your ROM or remove sprint software or Store apps on an sd card i/o on phones internal memory.

So I'm having a bit of trouble determing an absolute answer to this question:

A friend of mine set my phone to update to the latest Sprint update a few weeks ago (before I knew about this Rooting option), so am I pretty much SOL on rooting or do I have an option to revert back to the previous release or does it even matter?

Thanks in advance!

JDuc, The recent Sprint MR did not eliminate our rooting option. In fact, I had installed the MR and still rooted last week and went to custom ROM as well.

Are you sure? I haven't seen anyone mention the software root exploit getting patched. It would be something you couldn't miss.

Try a different guide. I assure you root can still be done.

I tried to do it thru the computer and cmd could not find specified path. Then I tried the one touch through the hero method from theunlockr.com and it said it couldn't be completed, which according to the site of you get that message your firmware has been patched. Please let me know if I missed something.

Hi all, just a couple of questions to clarify things... (Sorry if I missed the answers, I have tried to read most of the threads on this...)

1. I know the modaco flash is supposed to be no overwrite so my apps and data are safe, but just to confirm, it won't overwrite the SenseUI stuff either will it? (In my head this is like replacing the OS on a computer, and I don't want to lose my GUI...)

2. When (eventually) HTC/Sprint release Android 2.1, I will have to wait for the guys to release a 2.1 of modaco to use 2.1 unless I want to re-flash to original state with an nandroid backup and then update and stick with the default stuff, right?

3. Other than maybe what 1 and 2 imply, are there any other cons to rooting my hero?

Thanks! (And sorry for the dumb questions)

Cad

Thats correct. Welcome to the Fresh club.

Sweet, just one thing that's still not clear to me.

I was under the impression that I would be able to install the newest Android update (1.6+) Am I not able to do this? or how would I go about doing this now? My main reason for going about this was so that I would be able to update one of my most used apps to it's latest versions (paid for app) since they are only for 1.6+.

You're right I was looking at the 2.0 platform. I downloaded 1.6r1 as well. My mistake.

Android 2.0, Release 1 | Android Developers

I'm a bit confused.

I've run the SDK Setup.exe file

I have 1.1, 1.5, 1.6, 2.0, and 2.0.1 SDK platforms installed apparently.

Do I need to do something with this to get my phone to be running something newer than 1.56?

I'm a bit lost here, so please bear with me.

Mrstish79- are you following this page: http://zenthought.org/content/project/flashrec

???

The reason I ask is because of the terms you're using and the terms they're using and they seem to line up....

Yes this was the second method I tried. That is why I thought it was patched. I did both methods exactly as specified so I thought and couldn't get anywhere.
