Desire HD apps

Hi all,

I have advanced task killer and auto killer installed but I still have random apps still running in the background that I don't even have running, even in the background or memory ! Is there anything I can do as I feel that this is killing my battery life!

LEave the apps alone. Android will make sure that those that ar enot needed are closed when it needs more resources.

Well the annoying thing I'm having is ill go to click kill apps every now on advanced app killer but tend to find things open I didnt even open.

eg amazon mp3 app (this is really annoying and I dont want it tbh )

and other things like flickr and Stocks, twitter. I havent opened any of these apps and they are running as 'open' before I kill them off! I work in the IT security field and this type of behaviour is classed as 'trojan' behaviour where the app is wanting to 'call home' I dont want these apps running surely there has to be some way to stop these apps opening by themselves!

Did you even read any of the threads I linked? DONT USE A TASK KILLER. Android will fill its memory, even if its programs you will never use. But they DONT USE ANY BATTERY.

If those apps are actually "open" and running, that means you have them set to sync. Go to Menu-Settings-Accounts and Sync, and stop syncing them if you never use them.

These are not Trojans...Its called SYNCING, welcome to the year 2010.

Exactly. Which has been explained over and over again - there's no bloody need for a task killer on Android.

.. except for when you need to kill an app. If you try out certain unfinished apps they might crash. That happened to me when I tried Rockbox. It crashed when I tried to initialize the database, and I couldn't get it to start again without killing it.

BTW Rockbox isn't nearly finished yet - it hasn't even been promoted to "unusable" on the Rockbox site. But I have only been able to crash it when I tried the database function. Apart from that the playback works fine. When it is finished it will most certainly wipe away all the competition for its functionality. I am talking about the functionality related to music playback. It probably won't have the sleekest UI or non-musical functions like album art or lyrics download etc.

Exactly what I was trying to figure out. Great info. Switched over from symbian.

To kill an app...

Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > (select the application you wish to stop) > Force stop

No need for a Task Killer.

Thanks sitlet for cluing me in on the whole Sync issue. Have followed your instructions and disabled syncing; now I guess we'll wait and see if my apps stop opening up in the background randomly. Haven't been too concerned with battery life, but I do worry a little about memory consumption, although it hasn't caused me any problems yet.

ironass - I still use a task killer because who really wants to navigate through settings, applications, etc every damned time you want force stop an app? So much easier just to have something right there on the desktop that will take you straight there and just do it. In the world in which we now live, time and speed is everything.
