Help Is there anyway to set my captivate to only check emails between certain hours? I had this on anothe

Setting Profiles and Tasker can do this by automatically changing alerts to silent during whatever times you set. You have to do a little rules programming.

You can also use Juice Defender. UI is unfriendly but it does a great job controlling data use and helping manage battery life once you figure it out.

Tasker and Setting Profiles are both apps in the Market that can help customize the behavior/profiles of your phone based on criteria that you set, e.g., based on time, location, etc.

I use Setting Profiles, and I have Sleep, Meetings, Home profiles set.

When I'm home, automatically, my pattern unlock is off, brightness is at it's lowest, ringer and sounds are at mid-level.

When I'm in a meeting, the phone automatically goes to vibrate, pattern unlock switches to ON, etc.

Setting Profiles Lite is free but only allows you to have one rule active at a time. I bought the Pro version so that I could set all the rules I need.

Tasker is a Setting Profiles Pro on steroids, from what I understand. They don't have a free version and the paid version is more expensive than Setting Profiles.

I'm happy with Setting Profiles. But I didn't know about Tasker when I bought it...I think if I had to do it all over again, I probably would buy Tasker instead.

However, it helps to have a little understanding of programming to really take advantage of either software. Basically, if you know how to set an If/Then statement, you'll be able to understand how to use these programs. If you don't know how an if/then statement works, then you will have a learning curve to overcome.

If you want to set your phone's profiles manually,

For Wireless profile:
Menu > Settings > Wireless & Networks

For Sound and Display
Menu > Settings > Sound and Display

For Location and Security
Menu > Settings > Location and Security

Basically, using Tasker or Setting Profiles, you can *automatically* set ONE profile that controls ALL three settings above.

You can do it manually, but that's a lot of settings you have to go through.

Now if you just want so SIMPLY control Brightness, Volume, Wifi *independently*, add the Power Control widget to a home screen:
- Long press on a home screen
- Widget
- Scroll down to Power Control

That will add a widget that controls Wifi, BT, GPS, Sync, and Brightness as you need to. I think maybe this is what *you* meant by profiles, and which I refer to as a "setting". Semantics :)

Doesn't come stock in the Captivate.

I think there may be some free "profile" managers in the Market.

I like to create my own profiles, so that's why I recommended Tasker and Setting Profiles.

Just search "Profile" or "Ringer profile" or "Volume Control" in the Market or via AppBrain.com and look at the descriptions. One of them is bound to be what you're looking for.

I checked out those programs.... Not quite what I was looking for.... I just want to be able to put the notification volume to silent at night so I dont hear a noise for every email but I want the phone to ring in case of emergency. What should I do?

Try My Settings instead. That might be closer to what you're looking for.

Since you really only need to silence the notifications at night, it might be just as easy for you to manually set it every night before you sleep instead if trying to automate that.

Menu - Settings - Sound and Display - Ringer Volume

The only thing I want to turn off at night is the email sound. I want the phone a text messages to make a noise in case someone needs to get a hold of me. Anything for that? Sorry I took to long to explain....
