I have had the Eris for just about a year now and am going to upgrade. Anyone have opinions on what to get?

I am between the Droid X, Droid 2 Global, or just thinking about waiting for something at the beginning of the year with LTE (possibly Incredible HD)

I apologize if this shouldn't be in this thread. I am just hoping to get opinions from people who have had the Eris and moved on to something else.

Thanks!

Well they most likely would'nt be here if they moved on from the eris. Threads like these aren't cool. You go to the eris forum to tell them your leaving the eris. There have been too many threads like that around here.

The OP is perfectly "cool" in the way it's framed; it's not a "Eris sucks! and you're all fools!" thread at all, and we've seen a few of those around here over the months. ;)

I recommend the Fascinate, j-mac; it's an easy transition/upgrade from the Eris, and quite a beautiful display, etc.

+1 to Phases on the X, that was a close second for me. ;)

Be sure to spend a lot of time with them all in the store, that's what I did.

When I bought the Eris last December, it was with the full intention of using the phone until my new every 2 came up in August of 2011. I knew that the Eris was not as powerful as the Droid; I knew it was a risky decision to choose the more underpowered one.

I am still following this plan; the only way that I will upgrade early is if my Eris stops working. I want to go as far as I can so that I can buy the phone that is as powerful as possible at the time my upgrade is available.

If I were making the choice now, though, I think that I would wait a bit. It's not just LTE - Gingerbread must be coming pretty soon, and I'd like to see the handsets that come out for that. All of Verizon's current Android lineup are nice phones, but they've also all been out for a while (the D2 Global is the obvious exception, but it's clearly just the D with a SIM slot.) My own inclination is to stay away from HTC, as I find that the Eris has a mediocre radio and seems to have lower battery life per maH compared with other Android phones, so I'd likely stay away from an Incredible anything. If I were choosing now, I think I'd go with the D2 Global or the Fascinate; I think that the DX is a bit too big for my taste, but I'd still be tempted that way.

But, seriously, if you can wait, you may want to; first, to see what's coming either with LTE (which doesn't excite *me* all that much, because I know that most of the places that I will be will likely not be near an LTE signal for a while yet) or shipping with Gingerbread (rather than picking something now and waiting months for Motorola, Samsung or HTC to roll out a Gingerbread OTA.)

But, seriously, just pick the one that you like best and ignore all of the things that we say - none of us are you.

I had an Eris as well...only got about a year out of it - moved to DroidX, but didnt like it - too big, too hot. So I got Fascinate - which I love. Awesome Screen - the "Bing" thing is not a big deal. its a great phone.

in all reality, Droid Incredible, DroidX, Fascinate, Droid 2 - you can't really go wrong - all will be a MAJOR upgrade from the Eris.
have fun!

I had an Eris (rooted) and absolutely loved it and If I wasn't able to get a free Inc from Best Buy and keep my main line upgrade I wouldn't have given up on my Eris. A free Inc and my NE2 from VZW untouched was impossible to pass up. AFA what to get next it's a personal preference. Go play around with all of them and see which one feels "right". I played with all the droids at one time or another and I still feel that the Inc is the best and smoothest running droid on Verizon at this time. I love sense UI and how crisp and responsive it is. I have never been a Motorola fan and think that Motoblur is awful (personal preference) and Samsung has been notorious for not updating their phones and I wouldn't want an android phone "powered" by Bing. So, I guess that makes me a HTC fanboy? Regardless, the only downfall I have found with HTC is their battery. You can purchase a bigger battery and your problem will be solved. The new OTA update for the Inc sloved the slow charging with phone on issue as well as improved the radio clarity. So, basically, If you HAD to upgrade today, I would suggest the Inc. If you can hold out the first quarter of 2011 should show VZW users some really cool phones (Inc HD is what I have my eyes on ;)) Good luck whatever you decide to do

Just wanted to say thanks to all of you guys for your opinions and comments.

I ended up ordering the Droid 2 Global. I always kinda regretted getting the Eris over the Droid in the beginning so I wanted to see how an updated version of it will be. The big seller for me was the faster processor. The Eris was so slow and unresponsive (yes, even after rooting) I just didnt want to have that problem again.

I am waiting for it to ship to me so I can't say how I like it yet. The Verizon store didnt even know it existed. I had to tell them about it. They said they never heard of it and didnt have what I was talking about. I had to bring it up in online in their store to prove that they were offering that phone and then they magically found it in their system after that.

I managed to keep one of the upgrades on the plan I have so I will have an option to upgrade in early 2011 so I will take a look at the LTE phones then.

Thanks again to everyone who gave their opinion and for everyone who put work into this forum. It was a really easy process rooting and tweaking the phone because of all the guides and help from everyone in here.

i had an eris, loved it, just traded it in to vzw for 132 bux, and got a DX, it's awesome.

Wait, what, Caddy??? Trade ins? Gawd I feel so out of the loop.

I might have to try that. On the other hand, Dh's upgrade is in February and he just might love me enough to get my choice of phone so I can have it and I will give him my Eris. He's not a geek like me and doesn't really care. So then, by the time August rolls around, I can use my upgrade for a super fast new phone! :D

Well, personally I would just wait. I got the Eris when it first came out, liked it for the size over the Droid. I was definitely going to upgrade till I found the thread all things root, rooted it, went to XTRsense which I love, setCPU and now my little eris rocks. My brother just got the fascinate which I played with for a couple of days. Although the screen is wonderful, it did not blow away my eris like I thought plus I still like the size of the eris. Of course his fascinate was not rooted and I am sure that makes a big difference. The new Incredible HD looks interesting as I really like sense, but the size being like the X is probably a little too much for me. In that regard the fascinate looks like a better size for me. Androids just keeping coming out, I can only imagine what they will be like one year from now.....GL!
