Root Isnt there a new HTC stock kernal?

What do you think of the new Kernal? Any differences?

Time to charge is much better than the older .15 kernel and battery life is better. I think it's much better.

The biggest difference being .17's ability to sip battery when screen is off or your phone is standby. It's almost as if it has a built in screen off profile.

I've used it for 3 weeks on different sense ROM's. I can be at 57% before I hit the sack. 7-8 hours later (if your phone is sleeping correctly) it will read 55%-56%

I agree with everything except the last part, i experience about a 15% loss in 8hrs of sleep while it is idle, connected to wifi

This might be because i have Juicedefender running? But JD should just be keeping data off when screen is off, so you would think that would be a benefit

I am running the lastest stock kernel and my phone's battery will drop about 1% to 2% overnight while sleeping. I do not data off. If you are dropping 15% then there is an app running the phone down and not allowing it to sleep.

I concur something is running your battery out overnight and it shouldn't be unless you have something setup that way.

To rsarno: How often and how many apps do you have polling the internet for updates? I have hotmail, gmail, and weather to update once every hour. I leave wifi on at night

I think the one time this happened to me, now that i think about it, i had just charged to green light and unplugged and left it there

I think now that i think about it, it was normal because unless i bump charge, the phone almost instantly drops to like 92%

Then after 8hrs of sleep thats another lets say 8%

8+8-16% lost over night

So it actually sounds normal now that i analyze it

What i really need to do, is find a way to not have to bump charge, or off-charge, or anything haha

Are you guys using SetCPU with this kernel?

Without setcpu it really does very well. If you do want to squeeze a little bit more battery juice from it you can use setcpu and enable a screen off profile. You can take it one step further and underclock the cpu to ~768mHz. It has no performance hit (unless your benchmarking) and gives you a little bit extra as well...not much though...about another half hour of awake time in my case.

You will have to disable perflock (latest setcpu does this on this kernel) and check the "set on boot" setting

Are kernals interchangeable with any ROM?

Generally speaking, a kernel made for a Sense rom will work with any of the Sense Roms and a kernel made for an AOSP rom will work with any of the AOSP roms. I think there are some exceptions though, so best to check. Also there is now the thing were some of the kernels will not work with the SLCD Inc's.

Wondering if there is a formula to deduce the amount of battery used/ phone use. Like a rate of drain that you got for current charge.

I am very suspicious of my battery life. There are times when I feel like I run out of battery a lot faster, but then I realize I have used the phone much more.

Is there a definitive way to compare battery life between charges?
