Will Gingerbread be out before we see Froyo? Place your bets!

Will Gingerbread be released before the Fascinate gets Froyo?

Yes, I mean 2.3 on ANY phone OTA or pre-installed.

Hrm, maybe they're pulling a fast one and won't ever give us Froyo, just move straight to Gingerbread?

When I bought my phone, the (very irritating) salesdude mentioned that Samsung is slow to update, and might just skip 2.2 altogether. Not that I believe him of course, but interesting that you bring it up.

my new campaign is to bother @GalaxySsupport on twitter constantly until we get 2.2. hopefully i get my twitter account banned because of it :D

I like the idea. I don't like the EOY response though.

This is just plain Stupid on Samsung's part! Every Carrier has the Galaxy Tab right now, which runs 2.2! So why on earth couldnt these people at Samsung have Froyo formated and ready to go for the Galaxy phones for each carrier as well? This just shows that Samsung cares nothing about what they have thats current, and only care about what their about to drop, and what's coming down the pipe. And now in the second week of November we still have no date for Froyo, all while there is talk of Gingerbread hitting devices in the very near future. I like my Fascinate, but this is most likely the last Samsung Device I buy. There are lots of people out there suffering from GPS issues, signal Issues, email issues, etc! They should have had a fix for all these issues coupled together with Froyo ready to roll out weeks ago! Not cool Samsung, not cool at all!

And the number of those who say "this will be my last Samsung phone due to poor support" continues to grow.

Samsung.. poor support with their phones
Motorola.. uberlocked bootloaders
HTC.. terrible battery performance

Are you saying that based on this forum? That's probably because this is power user's community. But the general user reviews on Amazon, Bestbuy, Verizon seems to be overall positive on the SF, mostly 4~4.5 stars. SF is getting a little higher score than D2 and on par with DX, Dinc on Verizon.

Well my gripe is that they put 2.2 on the tab, which just goes to show us that it can go on the phones pretty easily...if they wanted to make it happen ASAP. However I can't lie, I like my phone, however 2 months for an update, that just about every new android phone has, on the brink of the next version of the OS, is just bad support!

depends on the audience. the average consumer gives a crap what version it is. if it works it works. coworker got his fascinate same weekend i did, we had not even spoke to each other about getting new phones before then, both showed up monday with Fascinates

mine is tweaked to the gills with all the latest, his is still bone stock and he doesnt care as long as it works......and for the average consumer thats good enough

yeah really 95% of the people who buy these phones ie dx/dx/sf/di have no clue what version of android they are running or what the phones can really do if hacked with. they buy it on appearance/screen size, what battery life vzw *says* it has, and what apps are built in.

its those of us in forums like this and chat rooms across the land that gripe/complain/demand things like 2.2/2.3. so really as much as i bitch and moan about never buying motorola again or locking this down etc it doesnt really affect the companies bottom lines.

that being said. give me 2.2 :D

Well as per Eric Schmidt who was rocking a Samsung Nexus S yesterday at the Web 2.0 summit, Gingerbread will be coming in the next few weeks! If that holds true, I'd be pretty bummed if this Thread turns out to be right. Even more salt on the wound would be if the Nexus S phone breaks before the Holidays and we are still stuck on 2.1

Reports are already breaking on Engadget and BGR about the Samsung Galaxy 2 coming very early next year as well. So Samsung is on a roll, however they can't get us an update on the phone that really put them on the Android map along with HTC and Moto. What would shut everyone up, including me and the rest of us on here, is if they drop Gingerbread on our laps and bypass Froyo altogether...Serious wishful thinking right there...

i think we ll have to see what happens with nexus s. really one that came to verizon with similar specs to us would be a goldmine for porting, but knowing vzw they wont get it.

im just taking the wait and see approach

This is the kind of crap that is killing electronic manufacturing companies horribly IMO and it's going to get worse. They are all so quick to come out with something new, making the old product obselete too quickly and making customers who purchased the old product angry. I think the same thing with TV's. They aren't as quick as cell phones to revise and come out with new, but think of how often you buy a tv. This is kinda what happened to my wife and I when we purchased our TV. Now we're stuck with an "older" (still nice 1080P LCD TV) TV when there is much better TV's out now (Samsungs LED and internet-ready TVs come to mind).
Then again, you could go to the opposite extreme (ahem, apple) and release a stripped down product first, then slowly add (what should have been included from the beginning) features with each small iteration of the product.
I think things like the oversight of giving us a timely, necessary update (2.2) is NOT going to work out in Samsungs favor. I want to love my phone and stand behind the company that makes it. I'm all the way there except for the lack of an update that is now becoming dated!
