Help Droid + Windows 7 = Blue Screen

I tried searching but found nothing on this.

This problem became worse after I installed a driver package from Motorola. Previously to doing that the error consisted of simply nothing happening. I would try to mount the card and nothing would happen.

Now, when I plug my Droid into my Windows 7 Toshiba laptop it's instant blue screen. I noticed that at the top of the blue screen it says something about an IRQ problem.

Ideas ?

Sounds like a conflict. Try going into device manager and checking for conflicts you might be having with other items.

Thanks, I will try that. It just seems strange that 7 wouldn't work with it. I've has such good luck with 7 and compatibility with everything else so far.

It's not Win7 (suprisingly) itself. My g/f is running Win7 64bit (wiped HD & 'upgraded'). My Droid has no issues with it.

Hmm... I have Win7 x64 on my MacBook Pro, and my droid works perfectly with it. I didn't have to install any drivers or anything...

The second I plug it in it blue screens. It saYs something about (irq not equal to or less than) at the top of the blue screen.

I can't figure this out since I never get a chance to try anything due to the instant failure.

BTW, I am running 32 bit Win-7. It was an upgrade install over Vista.

I'm still at a loss. I don't know what to do about it and this really sucks since all my iTunes stuff and other media is on this PC. Yea, I can move it to the XP laptop but I would really like to be able to use the main PC in the house with my phone.

I am totally lost as to what to do or remove or test or.....

Did you install a driver for the Droid? It's not really needed for moving media and can cause these sorts of conflicts. I think it must be some sort of driver conflict. Does anything happen when you plug in another mass storage USB device?

No, no Droid driver specifically that I know of. Also, I just spent the last hour uninstalling as much stuff as possible but still no luck. When I went to plug it in after the reboot the PC said it was installing drivers (didn't say what kind) and then the blue screen again. Again, it mentioned something about IRQ not equal to or less than.

So what about other USB mass storage devices? I mentioned that above. Do you have a thumb drive or anything? It would be very odd if the Droid was the only thing causing crashes. Could be something wrong with drivers for USB host controller.

Yes, the other mass storage devices work fine. I have a 1TB external USB tethered drive, a whole slew of various thumb drives of different manufacturers, camera XD cards.... etc.... They all work fine.

I think the driver is still in your system which is why it automatically gets installed on plugging in your droid. go to c:\windows\inf and look for the usb driver moto gave you... I can't help you with which one though....

I reformatted and reinstalled 7 and all is good now. I guess it was just a driver that I couldn't flush out.
