Easythether Question

Okay so I have been thinking about getting Easytether for some time now but have not yet because I haven't needed it. Before I buy it I have a question I was wondering if someone could answer, I know that the app only allows wired tethering, but I also know that my computer (Macbook Pro) has the ability to make a wireless network through a hard wired connection, pretty much like the wireless hotspot app on the Evo. Does anyone know if this would work or not I have an Evo and don't feel like paying $30 a month for something I probably wouldn't use that often but would really like to be able to share my internet connection with more than one device.

It should work, however, it may be slower than using the hotspot directly on the evo. And FYI, I dont know if you know this, but if you root your Evo, you can do the wifi hotspot for free.

z4root - free one button root app
once rooted (takes 3-5 minutes)
Wireless tether - free app

now you don't have to pay for easytether and you have wireless capabilities.

I don't really want to root just incase it would mess the phone up plus it says it voids the warranty, and doesn't z4root only give you a shell root on the Evo not a full root?

Since rooting is a reversible product - well you'd have to be crazy to pay that

I know it is reversible and I agree $30 is way overpriced which is why I was wondering if Easytether + creating a wireless network from my computer through the wired connection would work. Easytehter is a one time $10 fee. The main reasons I don't want to root is because you have the chance of bricking your phone and then the warranty is void so I am stuck with a $200 paper weight.

I do have the 9.99 easytether.... I don't know about the wireless part you are talking about. I'm not dissapointed with easytether by any means though. Good, solid, one time fee. It was all before I rooted though

I won't try to convince you to root if you don't want to, I was scared too. But this z4root app is as simple as it gets. literally one button and it's automaticly done. No different than any other app. And i was nervous too.

What kind of phone do you have because as far as I know, but I may be wrong, z4root does not work with the Evo because of the NAND lock, if I'm wrong please tell me because I may use it if it does work. Also with z4root do you lose the root when you restart the device?

I have a D2.... no, you do not lose root whenever you reboot. There is a root button, and after you do that, if you pull open the z4root app, you will have a "re-root" and a "unroot" button.

Like I said, I'm not sure about Evo. Maybe the Evo board can help you with answering that question. But it is reversible, so if it's an option for the Evo, it would almost be silly to buy Easytether or PDANet when you get the same thing for free.

EasyTether can be tried for free and so can PDANet I think. I would just try them if noone can answer your questions.
