Searching around here, I found a thread suggesting the z4root. My phone rebooted and I see the SuperUser icon... WHAT NOW???

First thing I would do .Download Rom manager - Flash Clockwork Recovery and make a Nandroid (backup)

Found that step, and it's been saying "Starting Download" for a minute now on the ROM Manager page in the market...

Is there another app like it I could try, or should I just keep trying to download this one?

That is a market issue - Cancel and do it again.

Thanks guys, I flashed the recovery page. That is the equivalent of making a nandroid, right?

Once you have flashed the recovery - go down to "back up current Rom"
Click it. Let it do its thing. NOW you have a Nandroid!

Once done you can feel free to flash roms and kernels (CMDA HERO ONLY)
and if somethings Fouls up - you can always restore your phone to EXACTLY as it is right now.

Hi guys, Im wondering if you guys can help me. I just flashed an AOSp ROm that was posted in another thread, [ROM][GPL][NONSENSE] aospMod v0.9.7 | AOSP 2.2.1 (Froyo) [11/05/2010] - xda-developers, I used it using ROM Manager. It has started up now and I was about to flash the GAPPS file to get the market and everything else, but I can not find ROM manager on the APPS. And i cant download it because their is no market. I made a back up before i did this, any help? Thanks

Reboot in recovery mode, shut phone off, then hit the volume down button and turn the phone on at the same time, then when the screen is back up, hit the home button to get into the recovery, and flash your gapps from there, then you can download Rom manager from the market

What he said - BUT - as you were booted Prior -
Wipe your Davlik Cache Before flashing gapps!

Thanks man, it worked. I started to freak out a little. Its only my second day doing this and its my second ROM. AOSP looks very similar to CM6, its supposed to look similar right? I mean at first glance.

Yes - Aosp has fewer customize features but is faster.
