i ditched my bberry for the hero yesterday and so far so good although like anything else there is always a learning curve. after being up half the night with the phone and manual and browsing this forum, there are a few things that i have not yet been able to figure out, and hoping the collective wisdom here might be able to shed some light:

1. i want to have THREE separate email icons on my home screen -- 1 for my personal email, 1 for my general email (gmail) and 1 for my job email (also gmail but want to keep it separate). i've got "messages" (personal email) and "gmail" (gmail). i *thought* i had added the corporate email account somewhere but cannot find it anywhere. where might it be, or how would i create a separate icon on the home screen?

2. i have a nice plantronics pro bluetooth. paired nicely, works well and can hear quite well when i MAKE a call, but when i RECEIVE a call, the voice goes thru the phone, not the bluetooth?!?!?

3. what is the purpose of that screen if you slide to the left? by default, it has sprint navigation and sprint nascar (yawn), but could that be used for "secondary icons" that i use a lot but don't have enough room for on the main screen?

4. this seems like it should be easy but the hero manual is somewhat lacking - how do i change the time of day display on the home screen? i though i would have a gazillion options?

thanks
jon

All the screens are customizable. Just press on a widget and hold, then drag to bottom to remove. I use my left screen for extra app icons.

As far as the time thing, try this: from home screen press menu - settings - date and time. It's towards the bottom.
If you want a different clock widget, drag that one off the home screen and then press the + button at the bottom and go to HTC widgets, then clock.

Hope I answered some of your questions.

All the screens are customizable and a big part of the Android experience and the HTC Sense UI.

You can create folders too on the screens, create icons to persons in your contacts, you can create the icons to the associated email account with ease.

Long press the screen or just click the little plus sign on the bottom right (+) and select Shortcut> Mail Inbox... and whoola!

Try the different SCENES too, they'll give you a little taste of what some of the WIDGETs do. Press Menu>Scenes... save your current one in case you made any changes and can get it back.

Folders are good too for organizing things if you have a lot of one type, programs, shortcuts, people, etc., can all be placed in them. Very handy for quick access and not needing to scroll through lists.

Long pressing should be your friend on this phone, try it on screen items and hard buttons when in programs and out too. Sometimes they have functions not revealed.

The BT thing? I don't know but that is definitely weird.

Your clock isn't updating? what exactly are you asking about changing the time on the home screen?

Hope this helps some...

Happy Trails!

sorry i was not clear -- i meant change the clock DISPLAY or FORMAT, not the actual time itself, and one of the previous replies addressed that. interesting that one of the analog clocks i chose (android, not htc) insisted on showing a time 5 hours in the future (zulu time?) despite the fact that the settings said to show my current city in eastern time.

this thing is getting cooler and cooler. i agree with another poster here that a link to this forum should be included with every android sold. :) definitely head & shoulders over my bberry but i just need to get as familiar with it as i was with my bberry so i can stay productive.

thanks a gazillion!

with bluetooth, from what I've read recently, make sure you answer the call through the headset. If you press answer on the phone, the sound will go through the phone.

Can someone confirm this? (I don't have a headset...yet)

I use the Jawbone II and have no problem with it answering. Just FYI... I think it might be that the Hero isn't too friendly with some of the BT headsets which is unfortunate... I wonder if HTC has a compatibility list of BT devices??? That might be worth looking into prior to selecting yours :)

Regards!

This is accurate. I have to answer the call with my earpiece not the phone itself.

If you answer it with the phone you can press the button on the bluetooth to re-route the call through your BT.

dumb question (or SHOULD be anyway): how do you send a text message and if you receive one, where does it show up?

You can send msg from the people list, from phone or on the screen there is an icon MESSAGES. When you receive one, the icon will get a green bubble with a number on it for # of messages, or alternatively the top bar on the screen will have an indicator on it, you can press and swipe down and it will open up and show a list of messages you have received and from who if you want to be selective.

There is also a message widget that is pretty cool, lots of eye candy on the phone for sure... try em' all and see what you like best.

Also, if you're big into messaging you can create a folder and place shortcuts to a contact in it, when you make the short cut you can select what the default function is for it, i.e., message. You can make another folder for calling as well... Just suggestions...

Hope that helps...

hmmm, curious. in using the calendar to set an event with a reminder for noon this friday, i cannot get it to go to PM. ayuh?? i have it set for 12 AM but scrolling around and such, i cannot get it to go to PM. it must be something obvious?!?

Use the calender on your google mail account. It sends you an alert at the prescribed time. I use it to remind myself to take my meds.

or
touch date/ screen appears, touch time, slide to PM.
