Coming from Iphone...little help please

I spose there's no perfect phone. I am a moderate user, I take a lot of pictures and txt a lot. I need a good calendar. Also I need the call quality to be good.

My choices are the Facinate, Droid Pro, Incredible or Droid X.

The X looks too big, the Incredible battery life stinks, the Pro's screen is too low res. Now tell me about the Facinate. I've heard that the GPS doesn't work well, I need it to. Also low RAM.

Help me make a choice...Thanks..

There are a few cons with this device, but it's a winner overall. I have used the HTC products, and they have a superior Exchange solution for work, but that is all.

There is a maintenance release coming soon it seems, that fixes the GPS issue among a handful of other minor nuisances.

For what you need out of the phone, the fascinate is fine for you. The update coming out will address the majority of the issues the phone suffers from. The phone has Swype, normal keyboard, and you can buy more in the market to fit your txting needs. It also has probably the best camera in the Verizon arsenal.

Not all phones had bad GPS fixes. Mine locks in under 10 seconds. But they do have some lag issues that is "suppose" to be fixed soon. Coming from an Iphone you will have some getting used to but it will be worth it once you decide to root. Possibilitys are endless.

lag will not be fixed by 2.2 if we are to believe the other sgs family.

custom kernels (not even lagfix kernels neccessarily) will, which require root.

the fascinate root community is awaiting voodoo 5 atm

I'm an iPhone user...well former user! There is a slight learning curve, but you will be right at home within 3/4 days Max...Once you get used to Android, you just can't use anything else.

I switched to android about a month and a half ago. I moved to an area where AT&T claimed my service would be "good" according to the coverage maps but I only get 1-2 bars of service, data was unusable and I would drop 5+ calls per day. So the first android phone I tested out was the samsung fascinate.

Coming from an iPhone, I think the Samsung Fascinate would be a good choice. The Touch Wiz UI has a very similar look to it so it will be less of a transition than other android phones. It's not as smooth as the sense UI found on htc but it's better than the motoblur on motorola.

Now for GPS, some people have issues and some don't. I've read forum posts where people found that leaving GPS on all the time that they have no issues with GPS at all. And shouldn't affect battery life unless there's an app running that uses GPS.

Picture quality on the samsung fascinate is actually really good for a cell phone.

Screen is said to be on par or better than the iPhone 4 retina display. I personally prefer the iPhone 4 screen over the fascinates screen but everyones' opinion will vary. However, the 4" screen size is very nice, the extra 0.5" really makes a difference.

For texting you can enjoy notifications that will not pop up on your screen in the middle of what you're doing and also can get time stamps for each text message. And if you don't like the default keyboard, you can just go to the android market and get a different keyboard. Same with the text messaging app, a lot of people really like handcent.

Call quality on the fascinate I found was really good. However, I also found call quality on the iPhone 4 really good. The main difference for me is that with verizon, you won't drop a call with 1-2 bars of service, with AT&T and an iPhone 4, I was dropping 5+ calls per day. Verizon really has quality service and I think this makes the call quality on most verizon devices very similar. But I had no complaints with call quality.

Currently I keep jumping around on android devices, I started with a samsung fascinate, then the droid incredible, then the droid 2. The droid 2 I didn't like for a lot of reasons. What bothered me the most was that even with haptic feedback turned off, it would still have haptic feedback on the softkeys and when unlocking the phone. The Droid incredible was the best experience so far but I did not like how fast the battery drained and how long it took to charge. So I'm going back to the fascinate and hope to use it until there's a better device out. But right now, I feel the fascinate is verizon's best android phone.

Hi, I'm contemplating D2 vs Fascinate as I look to upgrade from sluggish Ally. Since you tried both phones, how do you feel about D2 vs SF? I don't care much about haptic feedback things, but like to know call quality and battery life difference of two phones.

Coming from the iPhone this is the phone you want. I went from a iPhone 3G to the Droid Incredible. I really liked HTC Sence and phone its self was great but the screen was too narrow. I don't have big hands or anything but I could not type on that phone at all. I sold that and got the Fascinate and it reminds me alot of the iPhone size wise which isn't a bad thing.

The only problems I have found with this phone is with the GPS. It takes a while to lock your position but they say a fix is coming.

Hmm, comparing the D2 to the SF is tough. D2 feels more solid in your hands, like it's a better build quality, better materials used, etc. Because of this, it feels much heavier but it's not heavy. The SF is light, very light actually and thin. I don't have big hands but I felt the physical keyboard on the D2 was tough to use. Therefore, I found myself using mainly the touchscreen portrait mode keyboard. Ultimately I decided against it because I did not like the haptic feedback issue I described in an earlier post and the fact the physical keyboard I didn't use as much as I thought I would.

Call quality I have to give to the D2 because of the dual mic for noise reduction. However, on the 3 phones I tested I didn't have any issues with any of them. Must be due to the verizon network. The first call on my fascinate I made I remember it being super clear and I even commented on it to the person I was talking to. But the droid 2 you know you're on a cell phone, however it's still good quality.

Battery life I'd say that the D2 is slightly better. But I don't run any widgets that constantly update or any live wallpapers. I run a very minimalistic setup on my phones mainly for battery life. Both phones would be able to get me through the day with no issues. I like how fast the D2 battery charges. Also with my usage, my phone generally doesn't go longer than 10-15 minutes without being used and I tend to keep the brightness all the way down while indoors and set the brightness to automatic while outdoors.

Both phones are great really. It comes down to two things for me.

1. The obvious, do you need/want a physical keyboard? If so the decision is easy. Get the D2.

2. Will you be keeping the phone stock or rooting? If keeping stock I think the droid 2 is a better choice. Mainly because it's running 2.2 out of the box and it is has the "droid" name. If you plan to root/customize the phone then I feel that the SF would be a better choice.
