Iphone Vs Hero?

I am really sick of my iphone 3, and with the way it's performing now, I am loathe to upgrade to IPhone 4. I'm thinking of switching over to Credo mobile and getting a HTC Hero. Will anyone share experiences regarding
- speed of data download in Miami (Credo mobile piggybacks off of Sprint)
- multi-tasking
- apps
- multi-media
- performance in general
- overall satisfaction?

honestly..the hero's hardware is dated compared to the iphone 4. as much as i wanna tell you to switch over to the droid side..you'd be better off with the iphone 4 since it's updated with specs and much faster than the hero.

in stock form, i agree that the hero is outdated and sluggish, but id say a rooted hero with a good rom (cm6) could give a iphone 4 a good run for its money.

I would definately say that a evo would be a much better comparison for you, and even with the $10 premium charge, its still gonna be significantly cheaper than your att bill with the iphone

he said Credo mobile.. i doubt they carry any evos or epics let alone any iphones.

Yeah, CREDO only has the Hero atm (they actually had no smartphones until mid july of this year.)

As a so cal user of credo I've had no problems with their service, and every time I've talked with their customer service they've been a pleasure to work with.

I don't know much about the hero but in the case of moving from Apple to Android.... you obviously have a lot of stuff in iTunes so you're going to have to find the best option to synchronize. So far the best bet for me was an app called iSyncr, but other options include DoubleTwist, iTunes agent, Salling Media, etc.

But iSyncr was the only one that was able to transfer the actual playlists (not just the music) to my Samsung Galaxy S player.

Just giving you a heads up because it took me like days of research on here to figure out good options.

I work in IT for a large company and I get this question from employees all the time. Here is what I tell them.

iPhone is built for dummies. Basically, it is made for your grandma to pick it up and figure out how to fully use it and enjoy it. Android on the other hand is not. Android gives you more things to do, however if your not the kinda person that wants to take time to learn a new phone or your not really technical at all, you may want to stick with iPhone.

In regards to the Hero vs iPhone 4, I hate to really say this (don't throw stones at me please) but the iPhone is better. Now if we were talking about the Evo, Epic, etc...then I would say they beat out the iPhone 4. The best way to figure out is to play with both of them. Best Buy normally has a live phones you can play with. Even if it is a Sprint Hero, it will run the same on the network your looking at for demo purposes.

I hate my Hero like it's a rival from a old neighborhood gang. Not just the worst phone I've ever owned, and not even the worst telecom gadget, but probably the worst electronic device I've ever owned, bar none. I can't really compare the iPhone to the Hero because I don't have one, but by default, it would have to be better.

Hero can not be in the same class as the iphone 4. I love my hero, but I want to upgrade to an EVO or Epic.

The Hero can do battle with iphone 3gs. you might be happier with the Hero.. rooted with 2.2

but that is not a real upgrade.. from iphone 3gs to Hero. I might do things you like better... but others worse.
but if you looking to do a real upgrade!!! you dont want the Hero. Find a new carrier with better options on phones!!!!! that is the best advice i can give u.

sine i got rid of my hero

having owned a Hero and iphone 4
the comparison is not the same(rooted or not)

The iphone 4 bests the hero in pretty much every category

However, i would not recommend the phone to you

Idk much about the carrier you are choosing to go with or have
but i do agree that you should go to to a carrier that has a decent amount of phones to choose from

At & t(is what i currently have):
Get an Aria...it is inexpensive and basically a much better version of your Hero)
I liked it and it felt a lot faster than both the Eris/Hero i had for Verizon & sprint
while still having similar specs of the former

or if you want to spend a little money
get an Xperia X10(even if it's on 1.6 it performed a lot better then my Hero) or Captivate(bar the GPS/Signal issues)

Verizon:
Pretty much any droid except an Incredible...Stay away from that phone
Idk much about Droid 2, r2d2 or pro....But i recommend the Droid X for you or even an ally

and then T-mobile:
I think they have the most diverse Android offering currently

High end with the Vibrant and G2
Mid-range with Charm & Slide
and low end with Mytouch 3g and the cliqs

I'd personally go with the g2
but choose a carrier and a phone that is not only better then the hero
but not locked down like iphone

I love my Hero. It is my first REAL smartphone. The fact that it's an Android is why I love it though. From what I've seen from the iPhone, go with any Android phone. There's just more options.

The Hero is too dated to compete with the likes of the iPhone 4. However, a rooted Hero with a good custom ROM is comparable to the iPhone 3G. I wouldn't recommend an unrooted Hero to anyone really.

I've been weighing this option myself, and I cannot thank the users of this forum enough for the invaluable information. Without it, I definitely would stick with my iPhone 4.

Although CREDO has limited phones, they are offering $200 towards buying out your contract with your current carrier. AT&T iPhone users have a $325 ET fee, less $10 per month for each month of the contract used. Plus, iPhone 4s are selling for $500 locked and $600+ unlocked on eBay. So whereas one could go with another carrier and still pocket some cash, it's more advantageous to go with a company like CREDO who will help with the ET fee.

I don't have a Hero (yet), but judging from everything I've read, the iPhone is the superior device in many ways, yet limited by Apple and the iTunes store. I would venture a guess that an unrooted Hero is lightyears behind any iPhone, but once rooted and updated to 2.2, it could have enough added features that the iPhone lacks to make it a viable replacement.

Again, for me it's about getting away from AT&T and making a sound financial decision. Granted, I'd love to have a newer Android device. With 22 months left on two 2-year contract, it's much more appetizing to get the $400 from CREDO and live with the inferior phone. I'm sure they'll add new devices in the future.

My question is, even though CREDO says you cannot use other handsets with their service, would it be possible to unroot said device and flash it with a different ROM to make it usable with CREDO?

Not sure if this was meant for me, but truth be told it's not an option for me -- not at this time anyhow. I'm not going to throw $600 in early termination fees down the drain just to get a better phone. I think a lot of people are asking the same question for the same reason -- CREDO is offering a $200 credit per line, up to three lines to cover ET fees. Plus, they're offering 25% off service for the first year and they donate to Progressive causes.

So that leaves me with the option of getting an inferior phone and rooting it to (hopefully) get better battery life, less lag time, etc.
