HTC Incredible - is it the best choice from Verizon?

My girlfriend has Verizon and it's time to get a new phone. Her older BlackBerry is finished, and she doesn't want another BlackBerry.

I am advising her, and so far it looks like the Droid Incredible may be the best choice from the current Verizon lineup. She thinks my Samsung Captivate (Galaxy S) is too big. The Desire is Android, appears to have a good camera (8MP), and is a little more compact.

I hear the Incredible is soon to be discontinued from the Verizon lineup though - is something better coming soon?

Incredible HD is supposedly coming in December (maybe?); that's going to be a 4.3 inch screen though.

The HTC Merge is coming out soon, I believe, it's a Droid-like form factor with the sliding horozontile querty. Might be a little thicker than the Incredible, but I think it has the same screen size.

I'd strongly recommend avoiding the Incredible now due to the new 5Mb outbound data cap that includes all email forwards and any attachments of documents or multimedia!!

The 5MB cap is not an Incredible issue. If Verizon really wants to push for this, you will probably see the limitation appearing on all of their models. I knew there was a reason I've been avoiding that OTA update ;)

Agreed. The ONLY reason that makes sense is to reduce network usage. If that is the case, you WILL see this change on all their other smartphones.

And there are other ways a sharing/distributing videos.

I love my Inc but at times I wish I had a physical keyboard. Sense is alright but I prefer stock so I run Cyanogenmod. My gf has the Droid 2 and every time I use it, I experience slow downs, lags, and freezes and idk how she deals with it. I would recommend either the Incredible or the Merge if she's willing to wait

I sent a 8MP attachment on an email AFTER the update. So, the 5MP cap seems to for some reason not effect me. Also, since most people can drop larger files onto a computer and email from there.... that certainly is no reason to avoid the Incredible.

I just sent a 14 MB video via K9. Since I got the update last week, I do not see a problem here.

The biggest thing she needs to ask herself is what will I use the device for. I think the Inc is the best "phone" device out there. The DX, EVO, Galaxy, etc... are all WAY too big for me, and that seems to be the way newer phones are built. Personally, I don't surf the web a ton on my mobile device. I used an X for a week (as a loaner) and it was just too big. Couldn't stand having it in my pocket. But hey, that's just me.

This individual has his panties in a bunch (and mentions this in each thread about the Incredible). Personally I never notice this, as I don't send videos to people as attachments.

I just tried uploading a 42 mb video to dropbox and that worked like a charm so it can't be that big of a problem.

Unless you are very inclined to send videos directly from your phone in text messages or emails, this will not affect you.

So basically your "test" has nothing to do with or any relation to the problem.

It affects email attachments or forwarding if its over 5Mb, minus one person so far that
seems to be the exception.

Thanks for clarifying.
You seem to be the first person that is a exception to the problem.

What is your software and build info, etc...? This could be very useful in fixing the problem for those who have it after the update...

Thanks

If size is an issue then the incredible i think is the best choice. If battery is alittle more of a worry then the bigger DX or D2 global might be better choices. there is no real evidence the HD will drop anytime before end of the year.

The last I heard was that the Incredible HD isn't coming out until early next year. It's supposed to be one of Verizon's first 4G LTE phone. 4.3 inch screen as well, so it's going to be bigger.

Build 3.26.605.1 CL264707 release-keys
Software 3.26.605.1

I tried the 14 MB video on Wifi and 3G, went through each time on K9.

Narrowing down what you want, I'd say your only options are to get the Incredible or wait till something new (and unannounced/leaked yet) comes out.

The Incredible HD as you mentioned will have a bigger screen.

Verizon HTC Incredible HD ( HTC Mecha ) Picture and Specs Emerge

4.3 inch display and 4g. IMO, it's like an updated version of the Evo, for verizon.

The only Droid on Verizon with comparable or smaller screen size to the incredible is D1 (discontinued I believe), D2 (Physical keyboard though), Droid Global (Still physical keyboard), or Droid Pro (Though, it has a smaller screen and a BB-like keyboard).

The only other phones I can think of are some of the cheaper phones. But at this point, if she's up for a 2-yr upgrade, you can get some of the top-of-the-line phones for ridiculously low prices on a good day. (Cause they know you'll be getting a $30/month data plan anyway)

I can assure you that the incredible is the best phone on Verizon at the moment. This is not an opinion. It really is a fact.

I was using a Samsung Galaxy Tab (tmobile) and had it connected to my Incredible's hotspot. It was really fun.

I'm keeping the incredible until something better than it comes along. I'm also getting an Archos 101 and 70 internet tablet. I can buy both for the price of an iPad or Galaxy Tab.

I've personally owned the Droid, Eris, Incredible and Fascinate and honestly none of the other 3 come close to the Incredible

I've used the Droid X and didn't like it at all , mainly the akward feel of it . The Droid 2 was okay just like the Droid 1 but I'd almost rather have a Droid 1 since the Droid 2 doesnt' really have much to offer in the Rooting area

Is there any evidence to support this claim? I just spent 10 minutes searching Google and can't find anything about it. (other than a link that points to this thread)
