How to flash a custom Rom

1. Download the ROM
TRIPLE check and make sure that the ROM is for a CDMA Hero and not a GSM Hero nor any other phone

2. Copy this ROM (do not unzip) to the root of your sdcard using one of the various methods.

I found it easy to simply mount my SD card and then drag the file into the root directory. Also, if you are wondering whta is the "root directory" of your SD card, it is the main, top level directory. For example, on a computer the root folder of the C: directory is C:\

3. Go to the recovery program by either typing "reboot recovery" from an adb shell or by powering off the phone and holding Home while you power it on.

4. Once booted into recovery, make a nandroid backup

5. Then, wipe both data and dalvik. If you are coming from another ROM and were using apps2sd you MUST wipe EXT as well.

6. Scroll down to "Flash zip from SD Card" and select the zipped rom. Press the home button to confirm you want to write it.

7. After it finishes (takes several minutes) click "Reboot system now".

8. Once the phone starts to reboot, leave it alone. The reboot can take several minutes (I've seen some take 5 min. and other take 9+). Do not panic and pull the battery if it sits on the HTC Screen for a while. If after say 15 minutes it still doesn't fully boot, then something went wrong. More than likely you forgot to Wipe either Data or Dalvik or even both. This can also happen if you were running apps2sd before flashing this ROM and didn't wipe EXT. If the phone hangs, you can either pull the battery and get back into recovery, or issue the reboot recovery command from the adb shell. Once back into recovery, be sure to wipe data and dalvik (only wipe EXT if necessary) then flash the ROM again.

I saw this morning. Thanks. Only thing I'm not sure on is how I'm going to go about editing/updating the FAQ since it is locked. Otherwise, I'll try and read over it all as I can and make sure it all still makes sense.

Didn't even think about that! When you are ready to edit it (if needed) let me know and I'll unlock it for you.

Just trying to clean things up a bit and make it easier to use and follow :)

One thing I have, is lots of time. :D

BTW, I think you also would serve the community well as a Guide...however..I think you are a tremendous asset with what you already do.

Thanks for giving some of your limited time!

(And now back to the regularly scheduled thread!)

Ok, I am really nerous about this. 1st I know I'm supposed to backup info on sd card. I am TOTALLY new to all of this. Do I need to take all that is on my phone and move it to my sd card? I do this by connecting phone to computer then taking all from F:/ drive and move to my sd card. Sorry I'm being such a pain, but I am a visual/ hands-on type of learner.

Make a Nandroid/Backup - By....Download Rom Manager from the Market.

Open Rom Manager
Click Flash Clockwork Recovery -
Let it do its thing -
Scroll down - Click Backup Current Rom -
Let it do its thing -
You now have a nandroid(backup) Some people keep a backup on their computer.
You can just copy your SD card over to your PC via the USB Cable.

Your not suppose to open it, you put it on the root of your SD card, then do a Nadroid backup, then you flash it using Rom manger

Everything went thru its process. I uploaded the .zip file LiquidSense1.1_signed. I tried to open it but it force closed. There is a file and I opened it, but not sure what to do after that. I am really sorry for being such a pain. I won't take the info and run.

Do a nandroid first;)

Then 'reboot into recovery' with the rom manager app

Wipe data, press yes
Wipe cache partition, press yes
Go to advanced, press it, wipe davlik cache, press yes. Then press the back button

Go to 'install zip from sd card'
Find the file where the Liquid zip is, then press it. press yes.

Then the rom will be flashed and at the bottom of the recovery screen, it should say installation complete. Press the back button

Press reboot phone

Sign into your google account when the phone boots up, just like signing into your phone when you first got it
