Root want to root my EVO G4

What is the most reliable program and method to do this, and does anyone have a link to the website. This is my first attempt and want to make sure it goes smoothly.

I picked up my phone 2 days ago. would that mean itsone of the newer models. Where would I find the information you were speaking of?

That kind of depends. What is your build number, hardware version, and hboot version? If you have one of the newer builds, it's a bit more difficult. Pending that, I think you'll find the easiest method to be unrevoked. It's debatable as to whether or not it's the best method. The problem is, you cannot use unrevoked with the newer builds.

Menu -> Settings -> About Phone -> Software Information -> Software Number (That's what I meant instead of build number).

Menu -> Settings -> About Phone -> Hardware Information -> Hardware Version.

To get to hboot, power off the phone, then hold down on the volume down button while pressing the power button. Hold down on the volume down key until you're in hboot. You will see the version number there.

EDIT: if you just got the phone, you probably have a newer build, but please post that information anyway.

That's interesting. I read up in the different versions, and the 3.30 versions have different hardware than the 3.29 versions. That's not the interesting part though. What's interesting to me is that you have hardware version 0003 and also have 3.30.651.2.

I have heard of a forum member here with hardware version 0004...so I had assumed that 3.30 went along with 0004. That's doesn't seem to be the case though.

I personally have 3.29 and 0003...

Yep, unfortunately, you have a newer build, so unrevoked will not work. This is your only option:

While it's possible for you to root, if you are not comfortable with this method, I recommend you wait for an unrevoked update.

That's interesting. I read up in the different versions, and the 3.30 versions have different hardware than the 3.29 versions. That's not the interesting part though. What's interesting to me is that you have hardware version 0003 and also have 3.30.651.2.

I personally have 3.29 and 0003...

I've heard a few reports that it's both 0003 and 0004, but mostly 0004. The problem is the new hboot. I don't think hardware version matters much.

EDIT: What's even funnier than that is that my Evo is from a few days after launch, and I have hardware version 0003, too.

It looks like it's the updates HTC are sending out apparently without letting anyone know. Everyone who doesn't have ROOT applied yet are getting these and are being upgraded to 3.30 even with older builds. Hence the Camera problems and other ROOT problems.

I am very new so let me ask, how do Sprint and HTC feel about this hacking and are/will they try to disable being able to do it like Apply always tries?

I had a couple iPhones and Apple kept trying to block being able to JB it, then started doing things to the newer hardware to try to stop it.

I also heard Apple has something in their software that can stop or remove programs if they want.

There are a number of reasons why all manufacturers/carriers don't like it. Bricked phones, free wireless tether, etc. They will always try to keep you from rooting your phone, but some are easier than others. As far as HTC is concerned, all I can say is that the Evo was always a fairly easy device to root while the G2, for example, took much longer.

mine have never filled the screen when a contact calls me ...they are centered with their info below the pic

Right. It doesn't matter what size you make the picture; it's always going to be resized to fit that way. I've seen apps in the market that replace the normal incoming call with one that displays a full picture. They are out there.

To the OP, if you have any more questions like this, I would suggest you either search or start a new thread .
