Anyone boycotting the TSA scanners tomorrow?

Why is everyone slowly becoming docile sissy's these days? Seriously? Our founding fathers would roll over in their graves if they saw the behavior of the people in this thread not willing to stand up for what's right.

Translation: "There is no point in arguing this matter because I agree with it, but they feel a sense of entitlement, and how dare they(!) search me! I'm an American!"

Re-Translation: Taking IOWA's joke and turning it into something that's not even satire. For shame!

What's actually "right?"

What's actually "right?"

Not groping people in an attempt as a scare tactic to force people into nude machines that aren't even needed, and don't even improve security.

If they said it would reduce a terrorist attack down to 0% on an airplane, I'd be all for it. (the scans, not the sexual abuse) But they don't even prevent a damn thing.

I DONT GIVE A DAMN WHO YOU ARE, NO HUMAN HAS A RIGHT TO TOUCH ANOTHER HUMAN FOR ANY OTHER REASON THAN SELF DEFENSE. ESPECIALLY SEX ORGANS.

And they don't even let people walk away, if you refuse the scan they make a huge production out of it, escort you out like your the unibomber(8 hours later), and threaten you with arrest. Yeah, that seems like some great choices there.

I usually deal with TSA pretty successfully.. if they ask me or anyone in my traveling group to step aside for a pat down or full body scan I just use an old trick of mine:

Here is the step by step process:

::Waves arm in arching motion::

Me: "These aren't the humans you're looking for."

TSA: "These aren't the humans we're looking for."

Me: "He can go about his business."..

TSA: "You can go about your business."

i think people are looking at this the wrong way....imo need to make them as uncomfortable as possible. i can't speak for the ladies but i know what the guys should do...or at least what i would do walking through the machine.

option 1: grab your junk and rub your nipples while walking through

option 2: do a sexy junk dance through the machine

any other classy moves?

Most of them are probably uncomfortable to start with. It is not the typical employees fault, it is TSA. I dont see how being an asshole solves things either way really.. lol

protest if you want but if i have to wait in line extra long tomorrow because some people are refusing scans or a pat down making a big scene i will be pissed

so you're okay with them looking at/prodding around your genitals, but not okay with waiting a couple minutes??? damn sounds like you were raised with some GREAT moral values. Have some respect for the people who don't want to be molested in order to board a plane.

who knows what the government will do next when they see people give up their rights so easily

This is my point exactly. They don't prevent anything at all. They've stopped screening 12 year olds now. You know what I do if I'm a terrorist? I hand my bomb making materials to a 12 yr old kid, then I let them screen me to their hearts content. Once we're past security, I get the bomb stuff back from the kid. That's not a security hole. Or I swallow the bomb making stuff ahead of time, get flights with a long layover and pass the stuff in the airport bathroom. No problem there.

These additional security measures are likely going to cause some people to seek alternate means of travelling such as driving. Not everyone will be able to do this, but there will be some. Since the rate of deaths by driving are much higher than by flying, the result will be an increase in the number of deaths as a result of increased security measures.

There was a study done on the effects of the increased security measures taken after 9-11. Researchers found that the increase in number of fatalities in 2002 because of the change in travel habits is equivalent to "four fully-loaded Boeing 737s crashing each year."

The introduction of full body scanners is probably going to cause even more people to drive instead of flying. As a result, more people will die in car accidents. I think the end result is that more deaths will happen due to these security measures than lives are saved.

Probably a more tangible effect would be lost revenue by airlines and airports. If these security measure make air travellers uneasy about flying, there will be more people who opt not to fly or fly less often. These increased security measures in the US is also affecting some flights up here in Canada as well. It has made me want to fly less and even less to the US.

One possible way you can cause these security restriction to be lessened is if the new restrictions actually cost the people who are in power money. The only tangible way you people can get some type of reaction is by hitting the bottom line. Now, if people do end up flying less, it will likely affect airlines. Whether the effect would end up rippling to the TSA is another matter. Unfortunately, the TSA is not funded by the airlines, so if airlines are crying poor, it is more likely service will be reduced than for the TSA to relax their security measures.

I don't know if change can be affected on the political front. Judging by the polls, if someone were to run for office and his platform is to relax airport security measures, I do not believe that person can get elected.

I personally do not agree with the use of these body scanners. I believe that they do not save lives. I believe they end up indirectly causing more deaths than the number of lives they are supposed to save. I believe they will cause more health problems to frequent travellers and workers. I believe the only people benefitting from the increased security measures are the companies who make these scanners. If people try to go to court to fight these scanners, then lawyers will also benefit.

You're exactly right, unless you want the privilege of flying.

Yes, because I understand it's all for the sake of keeping everyone safe. Not to mention, you can choose the scan over actually being searched.

Techdirt.

this site has quite a few interesting tsa stories.

And if the methods they are currently using have been proven not to keep anyone safe, then why are you supporting it?

And furthermore, if your sooo ok with it. How about I join TSA, and you and your wife come through my lane where your wife needs to be sexually assau... I mean "enhanced patdown" by my future TSA buddies while we all watch and talk on our radios making the experience even more demeaning.

They don't even detect bombs. I'd say CNN is a credible source.

You are in the very small minority. Polls show the TSA right up there with the IRS as most hated government agency.

Where does it end?
People are okay with searches and groping, until it's them.
I want to see some of you that are here touting that your okay with it be okay with it while there is 200 people in line watching them grab your balls or finger your wife/daughter/girlfriend.

Then if you tell me your okay with it.. fine.
How about your kid, or wife?
Are they okay with being groped?

There are way too many knee jerk reactions out of people.
So when a bomber gets explosives on a plane up his ass and detonates them I guess we go to full cavity searches right?
How many more people will die from wrecks on the road because they don't want to be groped or have some stranger feeling up their wife?
Does anyone realize that car crashes from people driving will exceed the number of deaths from all these terrorist attacks by many times?

Once freedoms are lost they are LOST FOREVER.
Does anyone see where this is going?
It's a dangerous path we are going down and you cannot turn back.
The government does NOT give lost freedoms back people.. once lost they are lost.

We might as well be communist China.
Bin Laden won this war.
He attacked the freedoms of people in the US, and he succeeded.

Do you lot realize that the one thing a handful of terrorists cannot defeat with all the security in the world is a plane full of pissed off passengers?

No, you don't have to fly.... but like I said, where does it end?
Will it ever end or will we just turn into those dystopian societies that we like to watch in movies with the comfort that it's not real?
