that's using sense 2.1 but has the features 2.2 has? such as 720p recording, recording with the flash on, flashlight app, etc all the crap that 2.2 has along with the OTA update that we just got for 2.2?

reason i ask is because when i had 2.1, i never ever ever had typing lag. with 2.2, i do quite friccin often and it makes me want to throw my phone, as it reminds me of the crappy eris i used to have.

i figure, i might as well root and go back to 2.1 since there wasn't any lag, but i want the features 2.2 brought along. any thoughts?

+1 this. Very snappy ROM and haven't run into any issues yet.

if 2.2 is lagging on you, it means you are having a problem. It's not 2.2's fault. A common cause of a lagging phone is a corrupt sd card. Try copying all the data off your sd card, reformat it, then copy it back. If that doesn't help, download system panel and see if an app is hogging up your CPU's resources. Last resort would be do a factory reset (you are going to have to do one anyway if you are going to go back to 2.1 or load a new rom).

thanks, but did all of these numerous times.

it's 2.2, for sure, as with 2.1 i never had any of these problems. after putting 2.2 on and trying all of your methods, i still have it.

I'd get a new phone from verizon then, if 2.2 was the problem, everyone would have the problems you have. Basically your phone has a problem with 2.2, which might just be a symptom of a hardware problem. You still under warranty? The problem might only get worse and follow you to 2.1.
It could also just be a corrupt install of 2.2. Have you tried installing the RUU?
I'd avoid at all costs going back to 2.1 because of future compatibility issues with apps.

That is a very snappy Rom, plus, I'm not sure about some of the other features you mentioned since I don't use them but Jager ROM is one of my favorites too. It isn't Sense, though.

and to sdraw, there's many other people on here with the same problems as me, and many who don't as well. i'm suspecting that the people who don't aren't typing nearly as fast as some of us. at the same time, i'm suspecting handcent to be a bit of the culprit as well, as the lag doesn't occur as often in google talk or trillian. so i think it's a combination of these things, but i talked with the dev for handcent and we went through a bunch of random builds together and i tested for him, but we didn't find anything that worked and he couldn't figure it out, so who knows. i'm not gonna go and return it now, just in simple fear of how these phones are all so different (what with teh pinkish hue phones, some not being as bright as others, random problems some have etc)
i got mine on july 29th and i'm planning on keeping it until i get my new phone

I have had the same problem as you regarding lag in the keyboard after 2.2 update. I've tried almost every Sense rom and continued to have that lag. I flashed an AOSP rom and did not have any keyboard lag at all, which implies that it is not a hardware issue. Two nights ago I decided to give Redemptive Revolution a shot since it was recently updated, and so far I haven't had that keyboard lag, so you might want to give the rom linked above a shot, it seemed to work for me.

I highly recommend the MIUI aosp rom if you are gonna go that route. I really didn't think I would like it before flashing but has definitely impressed me.
I totally understand your hesitation to return your phone, I ended up having to return the phone I got on release day but not till after a week straight of flashing different roms and factory resets.
Redemptive revolution is a froyo rom, there is no roms that I've ever seen that use 2.1.
