If you would like to see Dark Android ported to another ROM, I gladly accept requests and I will see if I or someone else can do so in a reasonable amount of time. I am currently in need of testers or developers to work with me to expand my testing abilities and content since I only have a few testers and am using my primary phone to develop and test on. If you would like to test or help in development, please email me at daDesigns@mpmitchell.com.

As always, I am not responsible for anything that happens to your phone and all mods, including this theme and all others, have the possibility of damaging your phone. I will do my best to support my theme and assist with any errors that may be caused by this theme. Please read all instructions and entire thread before installing. Important information can be within the thread in user posts. Please remember that I do this as a hobby after my full time job so please allow adequate time for me to respond to a question or issue. Also, if you like my work and would like to help me continue my work, please donate.

To install Dark Android, download the package and follow the below instructions:
You should always backup your system before installing any ROM or theme.
  • Copy DarkAndroid.zip to your sdcard
  • Reboot into Bootstrap Recovery
  • Install zip from sdcard
  • Choose zip
  • Browse and select zip
  • Install zip
  • When complete, use back button or power button to back up
  • Reboot phone

There is also a goodies pack that contains lots of icons, wallpapers, LP docks, and alternate fonts as well as various themed market apps. To use the extra content in the goodies pack and market apps, download them into a folder on your sdcard.
  • The goodies pack should be extracted onto you sdcard
  • The icons can be applied using Launcher Pro, Desktop Visualizer, Folder Organizer, or one of the many other choices for icon customization.
  • The docks can be used with Launcher Pro.
  • The fonts are in flashable zips so once extracted, they can be flashed.
  • Of course, the wallpapers are applied the normal way using the gallery selection or other tool.
  • To install the market apps from your sdcard, remove the .zip extension and install like any other app. (You must remove any existing version of the app prior to installing)

For more information about how to use Launcher Pro to modify your dock and icons, check out their user guide here.

DarkAndroid has been updated to include new battery images with numeric indicator, 10% levels, new sliders for those not using WidgetLocker, a few other tweaked images, no round corners on status bar, and new keyboard from Gingerbread This will replace your multi-touch keyboard).

I am working on a themed Gingerbread keyboard that I hope to release in the next day or so.

Framework is the same on Rubix 1.8.9 and 1.9.3. So in theory this should work on both of the new releases by drod. I'm downloading now and willing to take the dive to see if this will work on the NON-LEAK version as well.

Amazing work!!

***update***

This does work great with the NON-LEAKED version of the new rubix 1.8.9

Props to the theme great attention to details beautiful theme

Very nice! Think it will work with the OTA?

I really have no idea. I have not ran a stock system in so long I don't know what the framework looks like for it. If someone would like to try it, I don't have any way to test the OTA. I would definitely make a backup before trying in case you have some issues. I do not recommend it though, do so at your own risk.

Thanks, I originally started creating on rubiX 1.8.6. Are the new animations working? They were released on 1.9.3, but they should work for 1.8.6.

I'm loving this theme, but I'm missing one piece to make it complete. On the dock bar where you have phone,browser,google,text.....I really need one made for "contacts/people" if you can please sir. :) I searched all of the icons, but i couldn't find that one. Also....how do you remove the square boxes that open up the app draw and still have it open it when I press it? I'm using LP. Thanks in advance.

The only problem with a contacts text icon is the word is too long to fit in the space at that text size. The icon packs that have them the small word usually says a whole word but the big word has to be abbreviated to Cont. or something. Just tell me what you want it to say and I will make it.

For the app drawer, you need to use a blank icon. There are two blank icons in the misc icon folder.

Edit: I went ahead and made one and uploaded it here.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm fine with the same text saying 'contacts' and the larger text saying 'peeps.' Lol....that's the only word I can think of. Also, thanks for the info about the icons also.

I just missed your post. I was at Walmart when I saw your first post. When I got home I made one and uploaded it. I attached it to my precious post. I made it like the other text icons I have seen with people on top and Cont. on the bottom.

That is why I never used a contacts one, I didn't like the abbreviation and couldn't think of anything shorter. I just use a swipe gesture from my mail icon. I can try to fit peeps on it but I don't know what if it will fit.

Edit: I got it to fit. Last time I tried I couldn't squeeze the font enough but this font did well. Maybe it is just the font. I will have to look at what else I can fit on them. I updated the zip file linked in the last post. It should have 2 icons in it.

Greg, do you happen to have any template files for the Lycan and SimpleDirty icons? I want to use Photoshop to modify the color and words of these icons, but don't know how to do so without a template file.

The Lycan icons are just text fields. You need the lycanthrope font to edit them correctly. I linked the windows font file in the OP. Once you install the font, you can just use one of the existing icons to create new ones.

The SimplyDirty icons are a creation of Manup456. When I create new ones, I use an existing icon to get the text size right and use arial font.

Great job man! Loving this theme...

Was wondering if you were going to to a non rounded edition to avoid the little white corners like below.

U can't see it via screenshot, but the top right and left of each rounded corner shows little white specs when inside apps like browser and what not...no biggie just a friendly FYI :)
Cheers!

I'm not really sure what the future will be for this theme as of yet. I know the issues with the rounded corners and it is an unfortunate side effect of the implementation. It bothers me as well sometimes. I have a plan to take care of it though.

Depending on the response, I may release a few different versions with different color schemes as well.

I saw the test build for 1.9.5 were posted on his site. This is the first theme I have really liked for RubiX so I hope you can update it without to much of a problem.

I am in the process of theming Launcher Pro and Widget Locker. I am drawing a blank at ideas to make it "unique" so I thought I would humbly ask for suggestions and opinions. Here is what I have so far:

This is a current process so please be gentle, but tell me what you would like to see and if I am going in a good direction. This may end up being a request thread if anything else.

Due to my limited storage on the forums, I have everything hosted on my site. Please click here to criticize my work.

Dark Android Theme
Built by the users, for the users

...sounds cheesy:p

Thanks for the input.

How to perform an SBF ? I am currently rooted OTA Froyo 2.2. Have DX Bootstrap from Koush, as well as ROM Manager on my DX. Just want the specifics of how to do an SBF, if I EVER BRICK my DX?

Thank you kindly.

Use this guide. You need to make sure you use the appropriate sbf for your phone, so the one in the thread may not be correct. You can use this thread to help you determine which sbf you need, but don't wait until you need it to get it since the links get pulled a lot. It also has troubleshooting information since RSDLite is quirky with the DX and Windows 7. It focuses on Windows 7 x64 but other operating systems have issues as well. I would suggest reading all of the threads in the DX root section sticky.
