Android Phone 7 Theme

alanamaslama:

This looks good. About the icon spacing: the heights of your icons looks correct, but the widths don't make sense. The only two things I can think of that would be causing this are:

1. Make sure you're using the correct image dimensions (your phone looks like a resolution of 480x800, so the image dimensions for the Incredible should work).

2. Make sure you have the "Auto-Fit Items" option checked in LauncherPro's "Homescreen Settings".

Thanks for the plug! Look for other skins I've created for Beautiful Widgets.

Using the Incredible's dimensions worked perfect, thanks!

You don't see that the text is all blurry?

inorde:

Okay... calm down. The difference between your expected image quality and the actual image quality of your 320x480 resolution device is not the end of the world. If you read my last post to you, hopefully that fixed your issue. If not, here it is in greater detail:

The left image is the old way Desktop Visualizer used to degrade images.
The right image is using Desktop Visualizer's new "Image Quality" setting.

Here's how to set it:

Please note: on older phones with lower resolutions, processor speed, and RAM- this may slow down your phone to use these settings.

The whole reason why Desktop Visualizer would "lower" the resolution of the image was to compensate for performance. Running that many widgets all at high resolution can really bog down the limited processor capability of a device like the Hero, Eris, etc.

Hope this helps.

I'm not sure what you mean by "smooth scrolling", but keep in mind this is just an aesthetic arrangement of icons that is still locked into the standard behaviors of the operating system. This "theme" was created to only mimic the look of the WP7 phones... the functionality is a completely different story.

So, in answer to your question: no, there is no "smooth scrolling" possible (at least as far as I am capable of producing). Also, for now, there are no "living tiles" widgets, either (but I'm looking into figuring out ways to mimic this... or write widget apps from scratch... I'm not that good at code, though).

Thanks for the response.

Just to try and clarify what I mean. In an Android phone homescreens are divided in a grid-like fashion, a single row of 3 or more 'screens'. To view more icons one most scroll to the next 'screen' or cell in the grid. Whereas on a Windows Phone 7 the home screen is a continuous list that moves freely, rather than in pre-divided blocks (more like the movement of Android's app drawer).

I kind of thought that was the way that it worked. From what I have seen in demonstration videos, though, it didn't look continuous-- as in looping. It just looked like the screens were scrolling vertically instead of horizontally-- not stopping per "homescreen" but still stopping at the "beginning" or "end".

Honestly, I couldn't imagine how confusing a mobile device interface would be if you:

1. Couldn't divide your icons, widgets, etc. onto separate homescreens.
2. Couldn't stop your homescreen on a specific icon set.
3. Couldn't quickly get to a specific set of icons without scrolling all the way through.

Really, it's just a different way of laying out the same things. But, as far as I know, there is no way of having Android vertically scroll the homescreens without some major coding. It's probably possible, but it may also make other icons, widgets, etc. unusable or impractical.

finally done. thinking i might make the background solid so that the preview screen looks better. the home screens will look the same anyway since the widgets cover up the black.

tp_technologies & alanamaslama looks good!!!

So, I work retail and when I see someone with an Evo I usually say something to them about them having an Evo too. I have shown quite a few people my theme and everyone I show thinks its soooo cool! I have directed a few people to this site to get all the info for the theme. Does anyone else do the same?

Thanks! And yeah, I've been meaning to show some buddies of mine with Androids this thread (or this forum in general). I've seen some really cool themes (i.e., the PolaDroid) that some people would really like!

BlondeeLox:

So I went into the Verizon store the other day to see if they could help with a problem I was having (my phone wouldn't send or received MMS) and they actually passed my phone around to look at it.

It's nice to be different.

I actually don't know very many people with Android phones... most of them have regular phones or iPhones... and they're all jealous.

1st off I want to thank Paulmz for this wonderful thread! I've been tinkering around with DV for a few days and was getting really irritated with resizing the pictures. But the original post's sizes worked flawlessly with my Epic. I did google searches for all of my images and used GIMP to resize them and add the font. Let me know what you guys think! And thanks again Paulmz! :D

Ok. Here is what I came up with. I don't know why my images are so small. Hmm. (edit: FIXED!)

Thanks to paulmz for providing me with some quality entertainment over these last couple of days.

The top widget on each page is the "title" of the page and a link to an "app catagory" folder that contains all of the apps pertaining to that catagory. The rest of the links on the page are my "favorites". I hope you like.

So are there any 7 themes that have the solid colored background blocks like in the commercials? I think the picture backgrounds are a bit too busy for my particular taste.

JaeWeb:

Well, we could always easily make images for the Desktop Visualizer widgets of similar solid-colored background blocks... but they wouldn't be "living tiles" like they are on the Windows phone. The most you can have the Desktop Visualizer widgets do is link to other apps, shortcuts, etc. But, so far, you cannot have a Desktop Visualizer widget show email or sms counts or anything like that. This is the one thing that the Windows phone has over Android.

But, all it would take is some widget apps with full-sized solid-colored (changeable) backgrounds that could show email and sms counts or whatever. I'm surprised no one has written these widgets yet.

I'm a graphics guy... not a code guy. I have been looking for widgets like this that allow skinning so that I could easily make "living tile" widgets just like the WP7 to no avail.

Any ideas, anyone?

Good work!

The only thing I can see is the widget spacing. If you're using LauncherPro, see this post: UPDATE: Enable LauncherPro Auto-Fit Option for Android 7 Theme. It may help.

I like your dock, too. Thanks for posting!

Hi Guys,

Really love this theme and am theming my Desire now. Just wondering what the sizes should be for the dock icons? I want to make my own..

Cheers

Thanks for all your help thus far! :)

maybefrog:

As long as you're using LauncherPro, dimensions should be as follows:

Dock Background: 480px wide x 84px high.

Dock Icons: 60px wide x 60px high each.

(I have read on other forums that the icons are supposed to be 84x84- but that's incorrect.)

Hope this helps!

This thread helped me a lot!!! Here's my Domo theme. I wanted mine a little different from everybody else's =) I copied the Gallery style that was posted earlier, but replaced it with a collage of Domo pictures.

BabyBlueJeff:

I dig Domo. I first saw him in the Japan section at Epcot's World Showcase in Disney World. I just thought it was a cool looking character.

Good work! I definitely think you should post those icons.

Thanks for sharing!

P.S.: I just made this Domo clock skin for the Beautiful Widgets home... when inspiration hits:

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

Here's a link to the file if anyone wants it: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4799256/Beautiful Widgets Skins/domo.zip

Just unzip it and put the whole folder in your: SD->data->beautifulwidgets->skins folder.

Good Beautiful Widgets skin there, think we need a Boston Bruin one though ;-)

Some new creations. Some of the images I made to supplement those posted with the original post. Very clean look, PaulMZ. If anyone wants them, have at it. I wanted certain links to be specific proportions that aren't in the pack up top.

And to whoever posted the first big collection up there, if you want to zip these up with those, feel free.

The aspect ratio's standard for a 800x480 android screen.
