Nexus One performance/speed tweaks

I'm looking for suggestions on how to improve the performance and speed of my Nexus One (AT&T version, Android 2.2.1, FRG83D). Despite all of the newer phones that have come along, I still love my Nexus One and it's THE phone for me. It does get a little sluggish sometimes though. Aside from clearing the browser cache, what else do you do to keep it running smooth and speedy?

My observations is Live Wallpaper seems to slow the graphic performance of the dock. I have had two N1 and when I use LWP the fps of the dock is reduced dramatically but otherwise the phone works fine.

Of course a factory wipe will do wonders for any technology that appears to get slower and slower and this includes Android devices.

In other words : don't install all the crap you find on the market on your phone !


..about the "performance tweaks" ..i only use the standard apps [atk & a start-up manager] and i only have apps that i know they work fine and don't f*ck-up my sistem.

What do you use ATK for? If it's auto close, you might want to try uninstalling ATK for a few days and see if you're phone performs better...

it's not on auto ,i close them when i feel it slows down.

tryed the other side too [no atk for 2 days] and it's a little slower.

Overclocking will only get you about 10% more performance because our snapdragons are clocked pretty high by default. And I don't feel that little boost is worth jeopardizing my phones lifespan.
But there are a bunch of snappier kernels out there, tho some may cost you a bit of stability.

Apologies for re-posting this but, hint...

I run Stock, unrooted N1.

Have 67 apps, all apps that can be on SD card are, and 70.28Mb free on 'phone. I cleared out a load of apps I never used...

Mind you just cleared pretty much all caches...

Settings => Applications => Manage Applications => tab "All" => Sort by Size => Clear Cache...(you have to check each one... AFAIK...)

Picking the tab "All" gets system apps also eg Market etc. etc..

Sorting by size is not necessary but it means you tend to get the greedy memory gobblers first... (eg Browser..)

I still love my Nexus One: My wife is still p***ed off with me using it so much.. I know Google/HTC will eventually cast us N1 owners adrift when they find some new attractive young 'phone in preference to N1 but, hey, it's still a great 'phone & I have no regrets that I bought it. Of course there will be bigger/better/faster/cheaper/smaller/slicker 'phones in the future: 'twas ever thus (Sigh! I started in the IT industry in 1973....)

I know someone mentioned this but rooting and installing CM6.1 made my Nexus WAYYY faster. Honestly, the only lag I get now I blame on the apps. I didn't think it was possible for my Nexus to run THIS smoothly, I don't meant to over-hype it but I don't think I'd much care for a faster phone because I wouldn't be able to tell the difference. At this point it's like telling me to buy a HDTV that is more HD than the last (which is happening nowadays and I hate it). What? am I going to count strands of hair on the actors or something?

Anyway, about overclocking... I'm worried CM6.1 is overclocking my nexus. I always feared the term because I've had a few friends burn their PC Processors that way and am worried if its possible to damage my Nexus or reduce its lifespan. I heard Cyanogen overclocks in all his Nexus mods but I'm not sure. Someone jump in on this one?

No, CyanogenMod is not overclocked by default, you can overclock it if you like by installing setcpu. You can run custom kernels also without overclocking.
